Help ..... charging problem

We can dream.

In this case the mystery was WHAT needed to be switched off and on again. The Eddi was functioning normally, heating the water efficiently and without fuss according to its usual schedule. It looked like a problem with the app. I had no real way to guess that doing anything to the Eddi would fix it.

Glad you got it sorted with an easy fix.

Just proves IT's favourite saying of switch it off and on again works. Do you think the same maxim would work with MG's customer services? ?
I think customer services need a wholesale firmware upgrade to a brand new platform release, not merely a reboot!

Hi - I'm a new poster so apologies if I inadvertently get something wrong. I've had my MG4 for about 6 weeks now and love it. I have a Zappi to charge it and and am on the Octopus Intelligent Go tariff. All has gone well save for today .... we had a power cut last night and also the night before and the MyEnergi app this morning wasn't working, with yellow triangles telling me that there was data missing. Further research by me online indicated that the power cut(s) may have caused this but it would all catch up with itself. I rebooted the Zappi and the broadband just in case it helped. This evening, the MyEnergi app still isn't working and I'm struggling to set up the car for charging. Octopus seems not to have registered the fact I've plugged in and the app won't give me a charging schedule. In fairness I can go a night without charging (particularly as I have covid and can't go anywhere!) but this does worry me - is this all linked to the power cut and if I really needed to charge what would you recommend? Bump charge? Setting the car to charge via the app overnight rather than by Intelligent Octopus? If the latter, where in the app do I set the 80% maximum charge? The one in the car doesn't seem to move off 100% but it wasn't a problem with Intelligent Octopus as you just say what percentage you want anyhow. Sorry about all this but anyone who can advise would be doing a huge favour!
I don't like my Ohmi Home Pro home charger app, I've tried using it a couple of times but prefer to set up an overnight charge using the MG4 app, it's easy and reliable.
If you are struggling to find out how, shout and we can run through it.
I'm currently on hols in Portugal, if I miss it, hundreds will be there to help.

I've had a right game with charging. We have Pod Point home charger and are on Octopus Go. I could not get scheduled charges on Pod Point to work to take advantage of the Octopus night rate.
A kind person on the forum gave me the following prescription for in-car scheduled charging which worked.

Plug in cable
Do not lock car
Home screen
Select charging
Select scheduled charging 00.30-05.30
previous screen
Manually start charge from car’s screen
Immediately stop charge from car’s screen
Shut door
Lock car
Don’t use the app

Subsequently my wife's Skoda Citigo charged to Pod Point's schedule but My MG4 wouldn't.
The outcome of several calls to Pod Point was that they said the charger wasn't getting a good enough signal from our home router despite me adding boosters to as near to the charger as possible.
Eventually the penny dropped. I suspected my larger MG4 was screening the charger from our router. Next charge I used the full extent of the charger cable with the MG now parked 15m away from the charger - it worked, and has worked since except for one hitch due to a power cut. Good luck if you give this a try.

I want an Octopus schedule because the car needs a full charge tonight - it's currently sitting on 8%. But if I can't have that then charging from 11.30 till 5.30 is obviously better than nothing. If I can make it do that.
If your on IOG, why would you set a schedule?, to only limit charging between 11:30 to 5:30?, your supposed to just plug it in, and it will be fully charged at your selected depart time. (In my case, its never got the energy rate wrong, what ever time of day it is). I imagine you are doing this as you have a home battery, all that happens is the battery drains to your set minimum battery level 'optimised with battery life', and then just draws from the grid (at cheap rate), then at in my case 11:30pm, it charges the battery back up again by 5:30am.

I thought I had explained. I needed 7 hours charging and I wanted these 7 hours to be continuous. I had intended to ask Octopus for a schedule and finesse the "ready by" time to get that, all at the cheap rate. Should have been fine.

However, Octopus was not registering that my car was plugged in, so no schedule ever appeared. Not knowing what the problem was, I was forced to charge for an hour at the peak rate, by starting the Zappi manually. I mitigated the cost a little by allowing the house battery to contribute to the car's draw during that hour.

It turned out that the problem was that the Eddi had lost its internet connection, which meant that the Zappi was also offline, which is why Octopus couldn't see it to know that the car was plugged in. All I had to do was to turn the Eddi off and on again, but I didn't know that until I phoned the MyEnergi helpline.

.... ah OK thanks for elucidating. Out of interest how do you know if Octopus has registered the cheap rate? - In our case Ohme Pro, I dont get notification, so have just checked the bills in recent months to make sure its working. I thought that by looking at my home energy display was doing it for me, however just just checked now (car not plugged in), and the Current tariff is showing 7.000p @16:33 ??

Yes, but is it the SR or the LR? If it's the latter you ought to follow the 80% rule as that has an NMC battery, but if it's the former, forget the whole thing and charge to 100% routinely.

Also, can you change your profile to put the right model designation in?

By the way, I also have the SE SR and love my car to bits. I also have a Zappi and I'm on the OIG tariff, so although I'm no sort of expert I'll try to help if I can.
Hi, maybe you can help me too. I have Zappi charger and octopus. I have only had my MG4 a week. I have tried the times charge, but so far it's not working. I set the times on Zappi but that didn't work so the next night i set it on the app as well. But still not charged!
Any tips on what I'm doing wrong? Thanks

For Octopus and Zappi, delete any schedules on the car or the charger. Plug the car in (early evening). In the Octopus app, check that the "Device" is there.

Octopus know from your charger that you are connected. The Octopus app should have a % age charge limit and "ready by time" and they do the rest. I've had the car charging at 20:00 in the evening because i assume that they have spare electricity at that time (still at the cheap rate).

Yeah, well, like I said, if the Eddi has lost its internet connection, Octopus can't see the Zappi, so doesn't know the car is plugged in. So no scheduled charge.

Arrgh - advice needed. It had all been working fine until it started to only charge to nearly what I had asked it to. But last night I asked for 65%, plugged it in and the schedule said it would start immediately (this was about 9.17 pm. I thought - that's handy and it charged away. The schedule then changed so it would start about 2 am. But in the morning, it had only charged an extra 10% or so, and it said it had stopped as it had lost control of my device.

I've tried re installing the app and setting up again with the Zappi and car but when I try to set it tonight it immediately starts charging again.

Any ideas?
