Hi all

We are expecting our X Power to be delivered on 2nd September. Still need to sort a charger out and wondering what people have gone for on here. I'm thinking untethered as it's a little neater.

We will probably only need to charge the car once maybe twice a week if I maintain a heavy right foot ?

I use a Ohme ePod, cable (kept in doors) and a recent upgrade of the software will allow you to do all you want or simple use it as a slave. All the data re. charging is available for you records.

Untethered is neater, but also the cable is the most likely part to get damaged so easier and cheaper to replace if needed.

Tethered is slightly less faff to get out and connected, then stow away again afterwards.

We've had a tethered Hypervolt fitted which should, by the month-end, work with Octopus tariffs. The electrician was impressed with it and customer service seems good.
It may be worth seeing if the granny charger fulfills your needs before ordering a fast charger.

I was thinking of just trying the granny charger but I've double checked which cable it's coming with as I'd read various things on here about them coming with either granny or type 2 and sometimes both, and apparently it is coming with just a type 2

MG website says that all cars come with granny charger. I got my Xpower end of June with granny and type 2 in individual MG branded bags. If they are only giving you type 2 then show your supplier/dealer link below. Go to bottom link “WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED TO CHARGE AN MG ELECTRIC CAR?”

You won't get type 2 cable with the car only a granny, unless you can persuade the dealer to throw one foc. Don't forget if you go for a tethered charger you'll still need a cable to charge when you're out and about.

I'm hoping that both turn up. Only a week to go until I find out. I'll report back and let you all know.

I think I'll try and see how I get on with the granny charger to start with for a couple of months and then decide after that.

Have you got an outside 13A socket, then? Some people seem to get by with this, but the slow speed might limit you, particularly thinking about cheap overnight tariffs.

I have a socket in the garage that I will be able to access to charge the car so that's not a problem. I'm weighing up if the cost of the charger will be worth it or not. The car will primarily be used by my wife for school runs etc and me at weekends so we may get away with it.

If you go untethered are you going to buy an extra cable or use the one with the car....are you going to leave it connected to the charger or pack it away each time.

If you run in health mode then you'll be using SOC between 40% and 80% so realistically approx 80+mile range depending on driving style.

Personally I would choose one which works with Inteliigent Octopus Go and get on that tariff with their 7p per kwh charging ?

I need to call my current energy supplier again. When I called at point of ordering they were quoting 6p per kWh at night. I think between 11pm-5 or 6am. I obviously need to check what the standard rate is on that to ensure it's not being added elsewhere

When I looked into that is was more expensive at other times, they are not going to give you something for nothing

Yes I need to work it all out properly. That's a job for this week.
Yes, I found OctopusGo tariff was far better for peak times (22.28p/kWh inc. VAT) than the other providers, so on balance I was better off with Octopus Go than say British Gas etc. over a typical month. My split in power usage is around 65% peak and 35% off peak (car charging overnight). Unfortunatley my charger and car are both non compatable with Intelligent.

I have a OHME home pro being installed tomorrow, I got VW to throw it in with my ID4 lease. Switched to Octapus a few days ago and as soon as I get my charger I'll move to Intelligent Octapus Go tariff.

I have an untethered EASEE charger with an off-peak EDF tariff that allows me to charge at 9p/KW between midnight and 05.00
