How come I can remote check car status?

As above, the car incorporates an eSIM which communicates with MG's servers via mobile data. When you use the app you're using your own data connection (WiFi or mobile) to communicate with MG's servers, which then communicate with the car - there is no direct connection between the phone and the car when using the app.

Thanks

BTW - just noticed your location. MG4 Standard is the EU (?) designation for the base model MG4. In the UK we call it the SE SR. (Just in case you want to update your profile). :)

Why to upgrade my profile? I don't know where to write mine is a MG4 Std (yes, EU)

But your location is Norfolk (UK not EU)? So selecting MG4 SE SR would make more sense.

From the Account Details link of anyone's profile - this is mine:

Your decision though. :)

No. I am in Spain. I don't know where that fake info about Norfolk came up. Probably I gave it myself. Again, I don't know where it is.

You must have given it yourself, nobody else would fill that in for you. If you can find the page to edit your profile it would be good if you could change it. It can be quite important to know which country a member is located in, sometimes.

I am looking for it, but I can't find it.

Why is the SAIC infrastructure so slow!? The mobile App only even became remotely reliable with the last version 5/6 weeks ago. There are only around a dozen core data points the App shows, SOC and vehicle status screen items. The car should push changes to the cloud, each of which is a few bytes of data, thus keeping the cloud up to date within the second. The cloud could push changes to the mobile App but even querying the cloud over mobile should take <2sec if you were using AWS / Azure, instead of 10+ seconds for <1K data. Rant over lol

I know, when you know how to build these things right, it is so frustrating to be given something slow and buggy that doesn't even succeed on each request.

I have surmised that they are coding by numbers using some kind of app toolkit and service API toolkit and they don't really understand how to create services at scale.

I’m sure they know it and next gen vehicle software will be better.

I did not know that! No direct conenction to the car but with MG servers. My iSmart app has been 'problematic' i.e. failed to work for many weeks then 'pif!' came back to life.

The recent 2.0.7 version did get more reliable but it still not 100% and you would not want to rely on it as digital key!

Indeed (not rely as dig key). But knowing the state of charge when on a public charger in Antwerp (=family) was/is a great help. I am though requried to re-log in if I don't use iSmart for some time getting message 'token expired'. Wouldn't happen with a Tesla

I have not connected my MG4 to any WIFI or mobile data, however, I can check the car status via my iSmart app.

How can that be?
If you get close enough it will connect via Bluetooth, I do this regularly to set scheduled charging session and check tyre pressures, range etc. I'm not sure if it is connecting via the server or not eg, ismart app to car, car to server, server to car. It seems quicker to respond to app requests, so suspect it's direct to the car.
