How do I know my ZS is a long range ?

As you have Long journey mode, you have a long range model.
I totally agree with @Gadget Geek.
In the photo you uploaded, you can clearly see on the right hand section of the screen, it displays “Long Journey Mode”.
This can be selected to allow the car to charge to 100% full battery state, giving maximum range from a single charge.
As this feature is shown in your photo, this has been taken from a car with the larger battery pack.
On the long range version only, the driver has the ability to set the desired charging level.
For day to day driving, I ( like many others ) set the charging level to 80% and increase the charge level to 100% when I want to make a longer trip.
The long ranger model has a larger capacity NMC battery chemistry.
The standard range model has smaller capacity battery which is a LFP battery chemistry and prefers charging to 100% every time it is charged.
So, standard range owners do not have the ability to lower the charging level and therefore the screen in the head unit does not have a section on the screen for selecting “Long Journey Mode”.
Long range versions only.
Hope this makes sense ?.
Also, when the car is in “Ready Mode” and the trip meters have been set back to zero.
The the predicted range on a long range model in the same charging screen, should predict a range of around 208 - 212 miles.
Set to max 100% it should predict a range of 273 miles (ish).
Clear evidence that the car is in fact a long range model !.
Don’t forget to reset the milage trip counter back to zero to match these predictions in range.

Thanks very much @Lovemyev
I’ve given up on trying to set it at a different percentage tonight. It was starting to hurt my head :) I will give it a go tomorrow or Thursday. I’m just very happy I definitely have a long range, which was what I was worried about to be honest. Thank you for putting my mind at ease and thanks for your help.
I’m also still getting used to driving an EV so probably still making some mistakes which is affecting the range. Only had since Friday!

Don’t think you can move the bar up while charging finish charging then move the slider although I could be wrong
Thanks @Conrad3
Given it up as a bad job tonight as it was giving me a headache!

Top tip :- Forget the phone for now.
Use the head unit in the car, it is much larger in size and easier to see what is going on !.
Boot up the car and then bring up the charging screen.
Using your finger on the touch screen, you should be able to set your required charging level.
Every day stuff, set to 80% if it suits your usage pattern.

Thanks @Lovemyev
The car is in ready mode, I’m on the charging screen but nothing is moving and I’m still just getting the pop up messages. I don’t have the charger plugged in either.
Could it be because the car is still bound to the previous owner? I’m just waiting for my V5 to come through so I can start the process with MG.
Sorry, feel like a right pain and that I’m clearly missing something very simple!

So interestingly, I have a little bar on the discharge screen that I can move about. I don’t have one of those on the charging screen!

I have the same screen but it does nothing in my case , tap whatever I like , it always charges to 100%..and I can't change anything on the screen to set 80% or 100% ...

p s. What is the little padlock icon for? Nothing happening when I tap on it ...

Okay - so because the car / app is still bound to the previous owner, then this does complicate things a little.
Stick with using the head unit until YOU have control of the App ?.

The the predicted range on a long range model in the same charging screen, should predict a range of around 208 - 212 miles.
In my ZS EV Mark 1, I also have to turn off the climate system to get close to the advertised range. It takes 5% off the estimated range remaining for having climate control (heating, cooling, or just fan) turned on.

I would say that looking at that photo, you already have it set to charge to 100% long journey mode already.
The there is two blue bars showing in the far right of that section of the photo. You have to tap the screen just before the long journey section to bring it back to say 80% SOC.

Has to be said, between MG and the dealers, they really must be getting something wrong to leave customers guessing as to which version of the car they bought. It's not as if it's a minor detail.

Why didn't they just put the kWh capacity on the DVLA registration information?

As all the EVs I have had have been leases, I've never actually seen a V5 for an EV. Isn't it listed in the details somewhere?

I bought mine second hand with minimal background info, supposed to be 51kWh, and unless I'm completely clueless ( could well be! ) mine is a standard range trophy ?.

I assume that the "long range" charge screen is same for both models with long range being able to adjust and standard range not - whatever I click on on that battery/slider it's not reacting to any taps and not changing to 80% charge ...

I got mine second hand, not from MG dealers but another large independent dealer, it's ex-lease car (might have been ex-yours ?) so not much info passed between all those involved but in some of the papers it says 51kWh for mine... I guess it all depends where we buy it from. New from MG should be exactly what ordered.

Not much in V5 and it's down to DVLA - they still use ICE based V5 for all cars, no mention of battery size but you get fields for exhaust emissions, cylinder capacity, CO2 ...

There are fields for make, type (MGZS1 for mine but no idea what that means as mine is Mk2 2022 car), variant and version but they are just codes with random numbers and letters...

Your predicted range when 100% fully charged, with the car in ready mode, and in the default normal driving mode, plus all electrical items turned too off.
Now reset both of your milage trips, what is your predicted range on the GOM ?.
If it predicts north of 260 miles, then you have the Trophy ? long range model with the NMC chemistry battery? pack.
The standard range model with the LFP pack with the same conditions applied, will be unable to report this type of range, purely because of the smaller pack capacity of course.

DVLA need to update the V5 and include battery capacity as a field on there.

So I spoke to my local MG Dealer last night, not the one I bought the car off, and they have confirmed that the car is a Long Range and they can tell because of the size of the battery that is listed on the details of the car. They don't know why I don't have the dotted line to move the battery charging percentage but said I can take it in for someone to have a look. They also said that the range I am getting is likely due to my mainly motorway miles, which does make sense.

Thanks for your help everyone, much appreciated.
