This is on the original 23 plate MG4 Trophy (black roof, different wheels, no one pedal driving etc). How outdated is my system software? Hitting the upgrade button it says no new software detected but surely that can't be right?

It's not that out of date .. after R46 came R59, and the latest now is R63.

PS - there are no OTA updates. Updates can only be done at a dealer, or by yourself via USB stick if you're feeling confident. (See the Software Updates thread).

All software versions seem to have a bug of some sort but if you are happy with how your car behaves don't worry about getting it updated. Plus if you just take it to your dealer and ask for the software to be updated they may charge you as MG won't pay them unless there is a problem.

There's an R63 now?! Is that available in the UK? I only got my car to R59 a couple months ago

What are the bug fixes / enhancements that R63 offers over R59?

Where can see the release notes?

A lot of owners expect the car's software to work flawlessly straight out of the box but look at Microsoft. They've been going since 1975 and they still haven't got it right and still cock up software updates and you have to wait, sometimes hours, twiddling your thumbs while they brick your laptop.

PS. This was written using a Chromebook

And this was read, on a PC running Linux Mint.
No Microsoft. No Apple and not much Google

The problem is never the bugs.

I developed software on Linux most of my life. I even contributed to Git and forked OpenSSH.

It’s the time it takes to deliver a fix that is of the essence.

Linux has its own bugs just like any other s/w product and OS, I used to design and develop under Unix and various other OSs.

If we are discussing the lengthy "Entertainment system version" then mine (purchased brand new just last month) is R30 !!!!!
Help; what do you advise I do ? I know that there ARE bugs so .. revert to my dealer ?
Yes but don't ask for software updates. Tell them that the Bluetooth connection keeps dropping out and that the DAB radio looses the stations. MG will pay the dealers for warranty claims but not just to update the software because the owner asks for it.
