Humidity on the inside of front screen (merged)

[ Moderator: There seem to be a lot of threads on misting at this time of year. I may merge more threads here later. ]

I was wondering if anyone else is suffering from humidity on the inside of the front screen. I am not talking about misting, which is usual. Every morning the car has perspiration on the front screen. To clean it, I need a cloth so it can soak up the water. After cleaning the cloth is saturated. Non of my other cars do this.

Check that control it is not set on re-circulating, best option to avoid this is taking in air from the outside option (I find the auto setting also does not extract moisture to an acceptable level)

Sounds like the AC isn't getting enough time to extract the moisture from the car. What about trying Silica pads to absorb moisture?

Do you have wet dogs in the car? I don't have this issue but I generally always have the AC on and set to auto... also no dogs

Sounds like you have a problem to me. Perhaps the front screen not sealed properly, I’d be going back to dealer if I had what you describe.

Thanks for the replies guys. No dog (died recently ), air only circulating from inside. I find the car warms up faster than if it takes from outside. But this is the setting on all my other cars too. Front screen sealing.....no idea..... but did come across this.......

It would be interesting to hear if something like that could make a significant difference. There's also quite a bit of wind noise around the screen and doors, so perhaps cold damp nighttime air is getting in too easily?

Whereas I can't see that rubber strip making any difference to condensation, it would certainly be useful in stopping pens, etc falling down the gap. I'd be tempted to try this first if it works though:

This has been a problem with EVs right from the beginning. The solution is to run the heater the same as an ICE car, nice and hot using outside air, or, run the heater with the AC if recirculate is on.

If you do this on all journeys within the car's range then it eventually dries out and gives you the ability to run with no heating for longer trips when you need it.

I think if you recirculate it'll be difficult to get rid of it, I guess the AC on would sort it but maybe not as efficiently

If I put recirculate on in my LEAF without the AC it'll fog up in minutes if there are multiple people in the car. With the AC on it is usually fine on the lowest fan setting provided it is directed at the windscreen.

I use recirculate with AC if it's humid and fresh air if it's dry.

I tried some of that on my ZS, it didn't hold in place very well, kept popping out, I guess you'd have to glue it in.

I know. I was only trying to explain the difference AC makes.

If you don't run the heater enough, which is common for EV drivers trying to maximise range or miles/kWh, eventually you will get this problem.

Agree with your rationale. OP doesn’t state whether he is using HVAC “normally”, would be interesting to know. @fshuk1 are you a hyper miler or do you keep car nice and toasty with the ac on (as you should imho ?)

Well I'd certainly be looking for a leak.

I'd also check the boot/spare wheel well and the pollen/cabin filter for water.

Another possibilty I've come across over the years based upon different cars. As we know, condensation occurs when the warm air inside a car hits a cold windscreen. In some cars during the Winter or rain, I've found that if I turned off the A/C and opened the windows prior to parking up so that the car is effectivley filled with air the same temperature as the outside, then there is no warm air/cold windscreen issue. Might be worth a go.
