I hate this car please reassure me

Must admit so far I am loving it and the huge extra range over the leaf is sooo nice - I got the long range.

I don't think there is much reassuring to do as you already decided it is a hateful car. You can always sell it. I don't hate mine as it does its job alright, but it would be SO much better if MG actually fixed the usability issues. But as it turns out they seem to sell very well due to their low price point alone so they don't bother. And there's already new stuff coming along.

LKA is single-handedly the worst thing ever and I find it impossible to get used to it because sometimes it takes a very long time to actually be able to turn it off as the infotainment boots up VERY slowly - often not at all without reseting. Is the system even doing anything useful in the background during those startup animations?

I'm kind of glad that I got the early version which defaults LKA to off every time - Yes I appreciate that LKA = ON (at start-up) was for NCAP?? – but what was the aftersales team (still?) thinking?

Just checking you know that you need to turn LKA after pressing the brake pedal to put the car in ready mode, otherwise it won't turn off properly and will reset.

I would say most certainly yes. As a software engineer myself these sorts of UI 'pauses' are put in place to show the computer is doing 'something' in the background, that it hasn't forgotten about you and it will be complete soon.

A couple of examples - most video games have loading screens while assets are loaded and so on. Copying a file in your PC is a classic where a progress bar is displayed. The bar may not be especially accurate but it indicates something is going on so you know the computer hasn't just given up and that you will have control over the UI again soon.

My wife's Mazda has a similar loading screen, though the MG4's seems to be much slower. The good news is software can be updated more easily than hardware (if MG chooses to). Case in point - my MG4 Xpower was built November last year and many of the software issues discussed on this forum have been resolved. But not all! I have a few complaints of my own
