Hi all,
Bought my mg5 ev (Facelift, exclusive, long range) July 2023, new, and I love it. Apart from the infotainment, that is. It can be flaky and when it is, it's just super frustrating, as Murphy's law has it, it stops working when you really need it.
I tend to use CarPlay mostly with Waze for the maps and Apple Music. Majority of the time it works absolutely fine especially for relatively short trips / 30 mins or less.
The longer I drive, the more likely the screen will start lagging - ie. starts to run 10-30 seconds behind real time - the car's position in the GPS app e.g. Waze is where you were 30 seconds ago; while the GPS audio is still giving directions that is up to date. When it's lagging, touching the screen also shows this lag behaviour, that is, you touch a button and it won't do the action for a while after.
After the lagging, the next stage is the screen just switches off. Not always, but a lot of the time. And stays off. You will still hear your GPS directions or whatever music you have playing. It doesn't self-right as you drive; the solution is park the car and either go have a 15 minute break with the car switched off or disconnect the battery. After that, the hard reset seems to restore the normal function of the infotainment screen.
Searching through the forum, there seems to be a number of threads referring to similar issues e.g. Infotainment screen has gone blank
Does this ring a bell with other owners? Is it affecting everyone, or just a few of us?
Are there any workarounds that you can do in the car without having to stop?
My first annual service is in three weeks time so I want to be able to have my ducks in a row with them to try get this fixed. Will a firmware update sort it? From the System Menu, I can see I currently have these firmware versions:
MPU: SWI83-29867-1300R12
MCU: 83.3.4.8
If this is a firmware solvable issue, what firmware update should I be telling the dealer I want done?
Any advice much appreciated. Thanks!
