So I test drove a MG4 Trophy LR yesterday and really interested in the car. The dealer has a couple of Trophy's unregistered on their lot, so I would have very little wait time.

Issue is trying to find insurance is near impossible. I know under 25 I am going to get raked over the coals for it but it seems a lot of insurance companies don't have the car in their database. Direct Line/Churchill both said the underwriter (UKIL) don't have the car in their database and people like NFU Mutual don't insure under 25s.

Comparison website are throwing up quotes for roughly £700 with Admiral, yet if I do a quote for a Model 3 SR LFP it comes out at £450.

Wondered if anyone had a good experience with any specific insurance company/aggregator?

Admiral are currently quoting me £365 (annual equivalent) for an SE SR including the Multi-cover discount. That's fully comp with class 1 business, for a 57-y-o male driving for 34 years, zero NCD (currently have a company car) but 3 years claim free, car parked on street overnight.

Insurance always tends to be higher for new models, but will come down over time.

Without knowing the rest of your position (context is everything for such questions, hence why I described my situation) then on the face of it £700 isn't overboard comparatively.

I am 6 years driving, 4 years NCB, homeowner, no convictions etc.

I think it's most likely my age and the unfamiliarity of the vehicle with insurers. Tried to give a few the ABI code but they weren't interested.

I'm 28 with 7 years of driving, 6 years NCD no convictions - my quotes are currently £1450 a year. I did see somewhere on the forum that insurers are waiting for the 1st of November to fully support the MG4. Which having worked in insurance before, makes sense - as frustrating as it is.

That's crazy. I just spoke with MG Insurance as on one FB group someone stated they got a good price.

The quote was declined as I was too young. Back to the drawing board.

I've had the same problem finding insurance and i'm a lot older than you!
Life & General, 01902 881434 have started insuring the MG4 this week.
They quoted half the price of NFU and Admiral.

Interestingly the L&G website doesn't mention car insurance at all.

Edit: Bewiser have a tie-in with L&G ... trying an online quote with them they don't have the MG4 on their database.

Don't forget to try quoting the ABI Code if an insurer doesn't list the car:

I think he is talking about Life and General, not Legal and General, just to clear up the confusion. will try give them a ring

Good spot - but it actually said Legal earlier. ;)

Edit: they're brokers not insurers. (Not that that really matters as long as the policy and price meets people's requirements).

26 with 4 years of driving and 4 NCDs, no convictions or anything. MG4 trophy black, £750 with admiral (telematics).

Tried Confused, meerkat, and gocompare, some quotes just don’t make sense. LV is asking for £3,000, amusing.

Price also depends on when you want it to start. Best prices are 2-3 weeks out because they are fishing for people doing their renewals. If it is immediate, you will pay more because they know you have to have it now.

yeah I had to delay my pickup due to the insurance cost.

I had been with Admiral for years, but ditched them this year after the renewal price went up by £100 and they wouldn’t budge on it. We parted company and I renewed with the AA at a much better price and same level of cover.

@siteguru you don’t look 57 from your avatar! ?
