Interior light holder

The bulbs are cheap but I don't want to end up having to shell out for a new perspex cover or bulb holders. I managed the light sensor cover but this looks trickier. I think I might buy the bulbs, and the mud flaps from Aliexpress, and ask my local garage to fit them.

I actually bought a set of plastic "spudgers" off Amazon to make tasks such as this a lot easier. :)

And changing the lights really is easy ... clear plastic cover off to get access to the bulbs, and remove the whole enclosure from the roof lining - 2 screws inside the glasses holder, then the whole assembly pulls out - to make fitting the new LED bulbs very easy (as you can press on the back of the holders to stop them popping out). :)

If you use a credit card/store card instead of a spudger it takes seconds and leaves no damage. Just push the long edge of the card up into the long edge of the diffuser and turn the card - the diffuser just pops out then.

Mine is done, anyway. I decided to ask the garage to fit the mud flaps and just got them to do the light while they were at it. It's great. I keep noticing the light coming on now, whereas before it just wasn't noticeable.

I changed mine over too, I found it much easier to unscrew the fixings in the sunglasses holder and change over that way. Massive difference in light now, should be great in winter.

I did my interior lights today. Removed the clear plastic with a small screwdriver - very easy
pulled out the old bulb - easy
Licked the end of the new LED bulb and it slid in VERY easily.
The 2nd one didn't work, they have a polarity and removing it and turning it 180 deg and re-inserting worked.
No force needed if the end of the bulb is licked or wet.

Just did this today on my new XPower. Replaced the old bulbs with "Philips Ultinon Pro6000 W5W T10 LED" 6000K lamps which cost me 14.90€ for the pair from Amazon (I'm in Germany) and I will keep the old ones in the glovebox for the lease return.
It was much easier do do than I thought, although the diffuser broke my plastic spodger on the first attempt to remove it, so ended up I using a sharp tipped steel spatula, levering from the front corner outwards. Both bulbs inserted the wrong round the first time, which causes a bit of a panic when it doesn't work immediately, so had to remove, rotate and replace them getting polarity right the second time. Pushing the diffuser back needed additional pressure at each tab to click it in place. Job done in less than 5 minutes.
Much happier with the brighter interior at night.

Does anyone know how to remove this unit without breaking it? One of the bulb holders isn’t clipped into place (or has come in clipped when I tried to change bulb)

Dealer will likely charge as it’s not a warranty issue.

Hey everyone - what is this center light for?

Ive noticed it turns on when headlights are on at night... And its disturbing to notice it go ON when driving at night.

Whats the purpose of it?
And is it safe to just unplug it?

I dont really like it.

Good Grief!
How much???

Got these of ebay last year and although cheap the two I fitted are still working.

Anyway.

They're cheap. (£3.69 for 10)

Stop having a go.

I could have had a go when you said 'spudgers' when you did in fact mean 'trim tools'
But I didn't.

I had the same problem.
open up the sun glasses holder then undo the two screws then gently lower the complete panel then you can replace the bulb holder from the back. Hope this helps.

That makes it easier (and safer) than just removing the plastic?

So i did this yesterday night - took the shot and removed the plastic. Was a little tough and sounded like it broke something... But its fine!

And i added my favorite blue tape (for painting) in that center light, a small square-ish tape, and painted the contours with a black permanent marker - leaving just the circle of light illuminating the tape.

Since i didnt want it very bright... i cut many squares and pasted one on top of the other.
4 layers of blue scotch tape to be precise.

Now i have a blue light.

Muuuuuch better. Pleasing to my eyes. Not distracting as it used to be...

And these white led i got are SOOOO bright...

Very cheap in amazon too. Check this out.

They are actually 100% white... My google pixel 6a didnt capture the right white balance.

Just in case anyone wants these bulbs, I've got them for $20 and i have 4 of them.

I might change the glove box and trunk if they are the same size. I bet these are brighter

P.s. the driver side (left) bulb was tougher to remove - so just wobble left+right until it came out. When installing... Let the bulbs make contact and turn them on to test polarities - if inverted they turn on weakly. If correctly, they are bright as ?... Thats how you know they are ok. The right side was tougher to insert the bulb... Wobble left+right while pushing and it got in.
