We have bought a brand new ZS and took it back to dealer in Newton Abbott today. The service manager has told us that a black horizontal shadow line on the road is "normal" for MG cars. Is this true, as we can reject the car in first 30 days? We also have issues with cornering in the dark.

The experience with MG4 lights is that the factory "adjustment" is pretty rubbish, but on the Trophy the dip and main beam lamps can be adjusted independently to get them correct - there is thread on doing that on here. The SE lamps can only be adjusted as a unit.

Not sure how the ZS lamps are setup.

ZS lights are completely different from old style lights and are visibly "shaped" on the road compared to a scattered wide light beam from old style lamps.. Not sure what "black horizontal shadow line on the road" is in your case but from the description, I would say I have that as well and it is normal.

What are the issues cornering in the dark? We don't have cornering lights on ZS that some other cars have so nothing really happens when cornering.

On the MG4 the "dark band" was because the high beams were set way too high (good for spotting owls in the trees though!) and as a result there was a gap between the low beam and high beam patterns. Adjusting the high beam back to horizontal where it should be fixes it.

Mine has this too, I have booked it in for a software update due to constant tyre pressure alarms and sos failures etc etc etc, have added lights to the list now too.

Thanks, but it appears to be a fact that with a ZS SE we are stuck with the black line, as there is no adjustment.

Please let us know what your dealer tells you about the lights. We have a ZS SE and at Newton Abbot he was emphatic that there's no remedy to the black line between the beams.

Unfortunately it appears to that headlights are not adjustable on the ZS SE, so we're stuck with a black line.

Where is this "black line", can anyone please post a photo of it? Is it when you drive with main beam and then you see this line between dipped and main beams on the road? I tried tonight and couldn't see anything unusual on my 2022 ZS.

If you look at the right side you'll notice the beem on that side is much shorter. I naively thought it was a fancy matrix type design to protect oncoming drivers but no appears to be just another MG problem 😂

Yes, when you drive with main and dipped beams both on, then you see the gap between them on the road. It is horizontal and has two v-shaped kinks in it It bounces up and down with the bumps in the road. If you have a ZS Trophy your lights may be different. Ours is a SE built in July 2023.

I keep staring at the photo trying to find something to annoy me and I just can't, must be love... 😂 true, I would assume the same "safety feature"... I don't have the opportunity to drive with high beams very often because I never seem to have the road for myself so I usually drive with dipped beams that are set quite low anyway ...

Thanks for the photo 🙂👍

You can maybe see it better in this one, the beam on right is totally different and leaves a black spot. Its light the right needs raised a foot or so.
