Not an MG
Hi guys (and dolls) been trying to look at the trophy hybrid plus but local dealer says none in until end of month. Been looking on Auto Trader and you tube and it looks a good car. We have at the moment a Citroen c3 Aircross which has been a good car purchased from new we needed a slightly larger car (from c3) for disability issues and the mg dimensions look roughly the same. Anyway (Sorry to ramble) could any Trophy hybrid plus owners recommend this car? Or are has it got bad reputation. Many thanks.

I am very happy with our mg3. Our kids have left home so 90% of the time it's just wife and I so it is plenty big enough for us. Currently mpg good 50 plus, handling is Great around town and I am not sure how I would manage without the 360 camera!.

If you compare the technology you get for the price you be surprised comparing with other makes in this price range they are always the entry trim when you spec to the same as the mg3 trophy they jump by thousands. 7 year warranty can't be ignored.

My only suggestion that you test drive one and see if you can tick off your disability requirements. If you work in the UK public sector ask for Infinity discount

I have my moans about it mostly the "inteligent computer" but I do like it comfortable drive good mpg. There are a few quirks with being a hybrid that I am starting to get used to but did bug me at the start. Do recomend a decent test drive with mix of urban and motorway if possible.

Naturally, I hesitated before buying this MG3.
Firstly because you can't buy a car like a carambar ™ (1), but also because some people will say that they hesitate to buy a Chinese car.
Just think that Volvo is now also Chinese and that Dacia, Mini and many others manufacture some of their cars in China.

So I tried out the MG3 and realised that it wasn't a low-cost car.... far from it.
I bought it and showed it to my neighbours, who also tried it out.

I was reassured when my neighbours asked me, "By the way, how much did you pay for it?" When I told them the price, they couldn't believe their eyes!

In short, I'm delighted with this cute, responsive and very well-equipped MG3.
At this price and with its equipment, it's unbeatable, especially with the 7-year warranty.

The hybrid engine consumes very little fuel and is very quiet compared to Toyota, Honda and Renault.

The MG3 is undoubtedly more spacious than the C3.

I can only advise you to get a test drive of your future ? MG3 via the MGMOTORS website, it will be quicker and more efficient.

Thank you all very much for your prompt replies, I must say when I went to my local dealer I found it somewhat strange to be told they hadn't got any in and was waiting for stock to arrive. At least have one in if only for a test drives I would have though. ? I am going to look on mg website and see where my next nearest dealer is and get a test drive arranged. Again thank you all so much for your help and I will keep you informed.

On the MG motors website, you can chat with an MG sales representative. He or she will then arrange a test drive with a dealer near you.
They are very responsive. I've tested them.

With 3000km put on the car since I bought it, I am happy with mine. It's an easy drive and has decent fuel economy. I came from 15 years of driving turbo diesel cars, and find no difference in performance and minimal difference in fuel economy. As others have said, you need to take it for a decent test drive, as some people find that it doesn't suit them.

I would advise if possible to test it driving uphill. The design of the hybrid system is a bit different to many other cars, in that you can actually drive a few miles on electric alone, and one of the unique features is how there is a 'generator' function where the petrol engine is running to purely charge the almost 2 kWh battery.
When going uphill the engine management will raise the revs to over 2,000 rpm to help charge the battery to drive the motor for the extra load. The result is the engine revs can be unusually high for the amount the accelerator is depressed.
Others have mentioned it on this forum, and it could be described as a characteristic of the drive train.
Conversely when driving normally the car is particularly refined as its mostly the electric motor doing the work, and the petrol engine running at maybe 1000 or 1500 rpm to keep the battery charged.
For motorway driving the petrol engine is mostly propelling the car, through its three speed auto box.
I did have an issue with an Engine Emissions warning, but after a couple of attempts by the dealer, so far at least the problem seems to be solved.
Undoubtedly the generous spec for the money is the big selling point, and for me the MG PILOT takes a lot of effort out of driving, albeit beware of Phantom braking, when the system gets nervous about parked cars on the UK's fairly congested and narrower roads. Finally as already said by others the 360° Camera on the Trophy is brilliant.
In my opinion, and I say this as someone who is quite Obsessive, and so am almost looking for things, the car has its quirks and foibles, but for the money nothing else comes close, and when you consider for this sort of money you would be looking at a basic and smaller city car, the MG3 has a much more grown up and substantial feel.

Thanks Keiths, I must say I was very surprised to find it runs on 3 gears whereas our c3 aircross is a 6 gear auto. What I have found disappointing is the steering wheel not being able to retract and reports on YouTube say its difficult to get a comfortable driving position because of this. In fact some reports state after an hours driving back pain was starting to be felt. But all this will be looked into when we arrange a test drive.

We have a new neighbour who indeed has one of these and I will be popping round sometime this week to "introduce" myself and ask them if they recommend one.

Recommended car, the pros far outweigh the few cons.
The driving problem you reported may only occur for people taller than 1.80 metres.

On the dimensions a good site to check size is Car dimensions of all makes with size comparison tools
It allows you to choose your c3 aircross and compare it to any other car.
Gives boot size as well as height etc

I bought the MG3 SE not the Trophy.Didn't think it was worth the extra £2000.

I did the same, because for me, apart from the Led headlights, and perhaps the blind spot monitoring, there was nothing that I felt I really needed, that would justify the extra 2000. The heated seats and steering wheel and even the 360 camera, I just didn't need.
