Just joined. ?

I did a bit more research.
What I found out is this:
No battery prefers, per se, to be charged to 100%. Even LFP batteries benefit from being charged to less than 100%
The main difference is that the voltages at 100% and at 70% are not that different and generally the voltages are lower than say NMC batteries
However, the higher the SoC over a period of time the greater the degradation.
therefore the true advice for LFP batteries should be:
Store at less than 100% charge but more than 50%
Charge to 100% regularly but not daily to maintain a good GoM estimate without degrading the battery too much.
Moreover, DON’T charge to 100% until you need to use the car: schedule the charge to 100% to happen shortly before you need to drive (but do include the time to equalise the charge in this)

Example: I’m charging right now to 55%. Last time I charged to 100% was last week.
I don’t need to use the car tomorrow. Maybe the day after. Certainly on Thursday evening.
Therefore I will schedule a charge to 100% by Thursday daytime so it’s fully equalised by evening but not stored at 100% for more than a few hours. And if I do use the car in between I’ll just top up a little so that it won’t take a whole day to charge it back to 100%
But I will not charge every day to 100% unless I plan to drive it the next day.

Advantage of LFP: even if I forget all the above and charge to 100% every day, it will most likely last long enough not to be a problem.
Yes, it is time spent at 100% charge that does the damage, not charging to that level per se, so good advice.

I think in the long term everything will be LFP (or an even better chemistry) and battery management advice will become a thing of the past - you just do whatever you want and it makes no practical difference.

Do you mean "constantly" charging to 100%? I assume you do mean that, which would indeed compromise the battery for the long term. Bizarre that this was the advice you were given, there must have been some major bugs early on.
When bugs entered the system when carrying out software updates ( Comfort 2 etc ) caused all sorts of problems for some Gen1 ZS EV owners.
Packs became badly out of balance and using a rapid charger, just made the whole situation even worse !.
After the corrective BMS software was installed, the advice was to charge too 100% and then allow the pack to enter into a balance cycle.
This was the only way to recover the battery.
Battery voltages after a full charge and an expected predicted range, was given as a target for what affected customers should be seeing.
As we know, balancing only commences when the car reaches 100% SOC.
Therefore owners where charging to 100% every single time they carried out a charge.
Myself, I don't believe this was ideal situation for the longer term health of the NMC battery types.
LFP batteries struggle to give out an accurate predictions of range, when they are charged to lower SOC levels.
At a 100% SOC they do a better job of predicting the range.

Thanks for explaining. This is where innovators/early adopters get burned. I'm an early majority person myself, which means I don't get first generation products when some do but I do suffer fewer critical bugs. Although I don't get the seamless experience of the late majority.

Probably a dumb question ?
How do you know when it’s finished Equalised charging? The app says 100%. Does it give you a confirmation? The wife’s waiting to go shopping ?

It keeps adding range when at 100% and time too finishing as well. Will it ever end ?

Hi, my name is Tony, and I'm seriously considering an MG 4 X Power for my first EV. I've done a lot of reading and watching about the car, and read the posts on here. I'm still a bit apprehensive about EV's. ?
I've test drove Two X Power's with a salesman and unaccompanied, was very impressed. Just need that final shove I think. ??
Definitely EV is the way to go I manage with granny charging + have home solar and local shops have free charging 6.4 kW .
But only u can decide.

The time it takes varies but between 20 minutes (for a well balanced pack) and 2 hours (for a really unbalanced one) have been reported.
It’s done when it says ‘Not charging’. At the point it’s fully equalised.
How long did it take to equalise for you?

It was about an hour into equalising and I had to pull the plug. ‘She’ ?‍♀️ that’s spending my super fund wanted to go.

Well Tony, all I can do is apologise for having never seen your first post til today!!

I bought my car August 30th 2023, so not long before your first post and.............
You are still X Power Less!!!!

What planets are you waiting for to align before you pull the trigger M8?

I love my car (as has been stated before) and am largely used to the reoccurring foibles and bugs which it continues to have.

I could moan about my radio favourite list that disappears just when I've decided to play Nation 80s on DAB.

I could moan about the e call going away on holiday at least once a week, but always comes home when it's run out of money.

I could moan about the reversing camera picture being solid blue 50% of the time.

I could moan about my rusty bells which started before I picked her up.

I could moan about the LKA not being very good.

I could moan about the vibes I've had from new and still are not absolutely, completely, to my 100% satisfaction, gone away.

I could moan about the knocking from underneath, that I can't quite pin down, due to having only one decent lughole. EH?

I could moan about more things probably,
if I didn't have to reassemble my homes hot water system today.

But apart from all the moaning..................
I genuinely love this car.

Does absolutely everything I could possibly want in car based form and is either, calm, serene and graceful, or an absolute hooligan, depending on your mood.

I've not owned many cars that can genuinely make you laugh out loud or make others scream, in equal measure.

I have yet to tire of the electric motors space age like 'Whirr' or is is 'Woooo'? and the ease of safe* practical, fast, easy to drive, easy to park, family, transport that this vehicle brings.

Yes, it isn't perfect, but it is an outstanding package for the money, and more so if you are buying used.

Just go for it M8!

To be honest, Chris, i don't know why I'm still X Powerless. I've been dithering and that's not usually me (at least I don't think it is). ? Defo want one, and been interested in a few, just not pulled the trigger. The latest being an 73 reg Volcano Orange X Power with 2000 miles on it. Which I've watched drop from £31,000 to £26,700 over a few months, should have got that.
But it finally sold last week. Trouble is it's now getting close to the so called facelift model coming out. With possibly and I do say possibly no vibes at all, and perhaps a few of the other foibles have been sorted. Not that the vibes and foibles particularly bothered me. I've always said life's to short to fanny about, if you want something just bloody get it. Should take my own advice. ??

No, you're doing the right thing M8.

If your happy to wait a little longer and are happy to pay full whack, then I might be inclined to wait also.

"It's your dime and your time"

Whatever's right for you Pal.?

(But the Mark 1 will always be known for its Character!??)
