Good question and following this as I have the same issue. Basically, I tried the settings where it alerts only, but this resets back which is frustrating.

On an MG5 Trophy FL it can be turned off permanently.

Yes, done that, but it automatically re-enables it after I restart the car??

Mine doesn't - I turned it off the first day that I bought the car (about 15 months ago) and it's stayed off ever since.
