Locking wheel nuts ?

So the answer seems to be, Yes.

Having just picked mine up, I found the 4 standard bolts and the locking wheel nut key in a bag in the boot, so at least I have the original bolts if I choose to bin the lockers. ?

There's a fitting guide supplied with the locking wheel bolts, and I'm very surprised to see that the recommended torque for these is 150Nm, this seems way too high considering the standard bolts are only 120Nm to 130Nm, and the lockers are usually the same or lower.

So I have a nice set of used (few days old, lol) locking wheel nuts which I'll sell for a tenner including postage to anywhere in the UK if anybody wants them.

To @Stuart Wright - I couldn't see a Classified section for the MG3 Hybrid?

Does anybody know if the MG3 Hybrid comes with locking wheel nuts/bolts, I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere, which suggests that it may not have them?
You'll find that each wheel nut has a plastic cap over it and you should have a cap puller. It's like a pair of tweezers that slide over the caps to hook over and pull off revealing the steel nuts. The locking nut also has a plastic cover but the fitting is slightly different, as locking nuts revolve.

Thanks, I didn't have the car when I asked this question mate, but I've now got the car, taken the locking wheel nuts off and sold them. ?

Also, the plastic covers are all exactly the same.

Hi Clive
The plastic caps are not all the same.
If you look closely the cap over the locking bolt is slightly larger and this is the only one that if you grab it with your fingers you can rotate it. You cannot do this with the other four caps as they slot straight over the hex nuts.
Having seen a neighbour's car sitting on bricks on his drive when he woke up one morning, I'll always have locking nuts on my wheels whatever the vehicle make.

How long ago was that? I've never seen or heard of that happening, for years..?
Your choice of course. But to me locking nuts/bolts are a pain in the arse. ??

All the caps fit on to a 17mm hex nut, the plastic cap on the locking nut fits on to a 17mm nut as well, and it's this 17mm hex nut that rotates, as a result of this configuration, all the black plastic caps are identical. If this wasn't the case, I wouldn't have been able to use the same plastic caps when I removed my locking wheel nuts and replaced them with the standard ones.

This is the locking wheel nut with the 17mm (rotating) hex nut, exactly the same size as the standard non-lockers. Also see here for a picture of my locking wheel nut with it's rotating 17mm hex nut head fitted on the car.

But if yours are different, you must have a different set of locking wheel nuts to the ones I had.

Not only the locking bolts but I got the triangle too just as I did with the MG3. Managed to talk the dealer into including the mats, which are still not in stock and even got a grand off the price, but then I did chop in a low mileage Facelift.
What really gets me, MG Motor have still not printed the Drivers Handbook! With all this 'tech' we need help. That speed assist is lethal when it slams on the brakes when it sees a cyclist - nearly had someone in my boot! A steep learning curve going on here...

The first models I knew of that didn't have a user manual were DSs (or for a few dozen euros as an option) ....supposed to be Citroën's top-of-the-range models.
The trend is to stop printing PDFs.
There's nothing to stop you using your lovely Brother Laser printer to print them yourself.

Question for the wheel locking nut haters please - WHY?
How often do you remove the wheel nuts to make using locking nuts such a chore?
Personally I have no intention of attempting to remove the wheels myself, that's what the AA is for!!
I can't see me needing to remove a wheel in the event of a flat tyre as my MG3 didn't come with a spare!!!
Perhaps if you hadn't taken the time and effort (and possibly cost) to replace the locking nuts with plain ones you may never have needed to touch them yourself during the lifetime of the car.

I remove my wheels once a year for cleaning/protecting, and rotating.
I don't like locking wheel nuts because if they're removed several times, they quickly become worn and are more likely to fail, conversely, if they're left on for a couple of years, they tend to become too tight to be removed easily, and can fail.
To be honest the MG locking wheel nuts actually seem to be a better design than some I've seen, but after 40 years of being a 'hater', I'm not likely to change now, and it's definitely easier to remove a wheel if all the nuts are the same.
