MG Ambient lighting

Im on my 3rd Ali express ambient lighting kit & honestly believe Ive finally cracked it. This kit is easy to install & boasts millions of colours & modes.

I was having a nice weekend until I read that and now, suddenly, I feel so old :( 👵

I have just done this, great idea but I’m not the best with cars or wires. I’ve got the screen back on and the lights in place but have quite a bit of wire behind the steering wheel/below screen. Can I cut this anywhere or tuck it down where the screen is when taken off? Attached pic below, so it’s just a little bit need to hide.

Also, do you have to use the remote or app? Noticed when unlock car they power on, but closing car and locked the lights were on so had to use the app to turn off. Any adapters etc that might work for this? Was thinking USB-C to standard USB

The strips come on with the key? I just put a USBc - USB2 multi adapter in my c socket. Unlock with key = strips light up & lock with key out they go.
Just a standard usbc-usb adaptor? Just got one from Amazon so hoping does the trick. Mine come on when open car but stay on after locking. Just using the standard usb

You get 2 strips, one longer (passenger side) & a shorter strip for between the steering wheel & door. Behind the driver screen you will see a trim cover, carefully raise & remove it revealing 2 philips screws, remove these enabling you to move the screen out of your way. Now simply push in the strips along the dashboard inbetween the top of the gloss black trim & dashboard fake leather. The wire end should be at the steering wheel end. The screen move enables you to get right round the curve behind the screen. You are almost done !trim the long ends off with sharp scissors & seal ends with electrical tape before pushing in flush. Guide the 2 wire connections down past the screen & put the screen back. Connect them & plug into the usb. It lights up green ?. The supplied remote needs a cr2032 battery however the instructions give you a link to a free ios/android app. Done ! You can adjust brightness, select any colour or have rainbows scans & god knows what, it will even react to music (if thats your thing). Best of all it looks factory fitted. You may have to power it on/off with the remote, just point it at the thingy plugged into the usb. My Wife loves hers & I love mine.
It looks really good! I am tempted to get one installed.

Might be worth seeing if they stay on after a few minutes. When locking the car, a lot of stuff stays active for a little while (if I walk past my phone automatically connects to CarPlay again for instance). Add to that that these LED strips can glow for a bit on “residual” power, it might just be that the lights will turn off with the car, but they take a few minutes to do so.

Think you’re right, cheers! They do take a few mins I think to go off. Got an adaptor anyway as need usb cable for car play too but should go off same way
