Nevermind. I updated waze to the latest version and I don't have alerts when i'm going faster than the speed limit. Looks like some updates broke something.

I got fed up fighting the coil of cable on top of the centre console, despite the cable only being 3ft long.
Then in an idle moment I found some 50cm cables certified to 10Gb. At a tenner for 2 delivered, it was inviting, especially as the colour choice meant I could continue the #teamblue theme.

I've used them for Google Maps navigation on a few runs now and the performance has been stable thus far.
