Interesting that the factory in Ningde is right next to the Port as well as CATL the battery manufacturer. They have their own shipping lines too. With ships going to North and South America as well as Locally in Asia and Further on to Europe. 1 million cars per annum is huge. Nissan do 5-6 million and Toyota/VW 10+ million. They can hit 4-5 million for sure. If you add commercial vehicles and enter more markets. EV is a limiting factor in many markets so Hybrid works well. Some of these videos are state funded but couldn't find much independent on the topic. Feel free to add them

Not cheap to operate all this. Maintaining ships. Definition of DiY

Subsidies in US and Canada..vs China

"SAIC currently has joint ventures with Volkswagen and GM. The Chinese company also runs its own electric brands: Rising Auto and IM Motors."

SAIC and Audi will unveil a joint venture concept car in November for the Chinese market. The article states its to help Audi increase sales in China. Might mean the German manufacturers dont want these Tariffs as they value the Chinese market.

Since as you say SAIC already has a joint venture with VW, many parts on the MGs are very VW parts bin, and Audi is part of the VW group, it's not much of a step. :)

Collaboration is important since the 2008 crash. Car sales have declined in some sectors. Toyota are probably one of the few companies without a million subsidiaries. Nissan Renault will hook up with Honda to make EVs. Mercedes were previously doing work with Chinese ev company. SaiC want 5 million sales per annum which will put them on equal footing with Nissan and BMW etc. The Germans want to compete with the Chinese are offering help in a 500 million customer market. Its a no brainer. Chinese market is over 10 times the size of UK.

Premium brands are also cross sharing parts.
