Hi folks
Just wanted to explore if any of you have any experience with using the MG Service plan.

Pros/Cons - would you buy it again?

I've been quoted different amounts for a 3 year service plan from different dealers on the HS PHEV (£695 - £800+) which confuses me as I thought it was a nationally recognised standard plan that could be used at any MG dealers?!

What's also hindering me making a decision is the lack of information regarding a comparative cost breakdown year on year of servicing the HS PHEV if you were NOT to opt for the inclusive servicing package (i.e Pay as You Go).

Is there a substantial saving to be made?

I used MG online to check the plans rather than adding the dealers. I’m sure I’ve listed them here before.

I eventually signed up for a 4 year plan (£29 a month including 2 MOTs) as my PCP is 4 years and I’d like to keep it simple in case I want to return it at the end of 4 years

It is worth looking on the MG website, where they do compare to the PAYG costs. The wierd bit is that the total cost is higher than PAYG! They charge a £1.20 per Month mamagement fee for the dealer to "manage" your paying by DD. As far as I can see, you pay say £29 pcm - as per Hermitdave above. So end of year one you have paid £350 (12 x £29) for a £160/£180 service, so are in credit to the tune of £170 to £190 for another whole year, when tha same hapens again, so by year 3 you are £340 to £380 in credit.

This is all caused by the year 3 and 4 services being both bigger services, and having a £56 MOT on them.

I decided it was not the right system for me to end up £380 in credit after 2 years.

Service packs usually offer a significant (30%) discount on PAYG service costs. They are trying to keep the 3 year and older cars in the dealer network for servicing, to help the dealers bottom line.

I am not sure what MG are trying to achive here. I could understand a really discounted 7 year service package - that ties up with their warranty, and will keep cars in the dealer network.

From previous experience MG service prices varies considerably from dealer to dealer. A service plan allows you to easily budgeted for car servicing without forking out a lump sum every year. The bigger service you could be looking at £400-500. I’m not sure if the service plan prices are different from the MG website or one from the dealer themselves. I have signed up for a 5 year service plan plus all the necessary MOTs for £27.50/mth.

Took out the dealer service plan instead, if you don’t use it you get your money back. Beware that the 4th service is the big one
