MG3 Hybrid+ Trophy
Hey, my mg3 hybrid is currently in the dealership garage being looked at. They've said it needs a new gear selector solenoid.
I've had another issue where turning left makes the drivers seat squeak which is rather frustrating.
The MPG is also really poor when the engine is not up to temperature, getting between 20 and 35mpg when cold.
Has anyone experienced any of these issues at all?

EDIT: just to add I've found the car engine revving hard up to and over 2k rpm which makes the accelerator pedal uncomfortable, as it vibrates up your right foot and leg. All of the above issues have been highlighted to the dealer.

I've been given a Vauxhall corsa e as a courtesy car which is a life style changer for sure, as we don't have home charging.

Hi @Koz, I don't think we've come across squeaky seats yet, please let us know if you find the cause.

The low mpg sounds normal if you're doing a short journey of only a mile or two, but it should get much better on longer trips, even in cold weather.

Hey MG Clive!

I'm hoping the dealership will let me know what the issue is. I've only had the car a few months and done 2200 miles in the car so far.

Make sense regarding the mpg

Good morning,

I have just done a short trip of more than 100 km with the car, and well I am mixed, not by the general behavior, but the engine.

I wanted to overtake a truck that had a flat tire and was slowing down and went I passed from 60 to 100, the gasoline engine started screaming, by the time I had enough speed and I felt that the speed was passing?? ?. and I did several tests again and the same engine forcing noise.

more when going down to 70, and maintaining this speed, a metallic vibration noise under the engine, (maybe also the speed which has difficulty going down?) and which persists while maintaining this speed. and I noticed that this noise occurs especially when decelerating AND maintaining speed (only at 60 or 70).

as soon as I slow down and accelerate below or above these speeds, no more noise.

in electric mode of course everything is fine.

as this is my first hybrid is this normal???

I don't have that but I find the engine incredibly harsh, no refinement at all sadly, the road noise is pretty awful too.
The engine and hybrid system do not seem in sync sometimes. I've found if the battery is charged up close to full and you're going beyond 50mph, the engine doesn't know whether to drive the car or charge the battery and drive. Definitely a quirk. I find the engine is juddery in traffic as it moves off from a stand still. However, the road noise is a bit better than my old fiesta.

I noted kmh, so
60kmh = 37 mph
and 70kmh = 43 mph
I agree that driving must be more linear and without too much jerk, but sometimes, we have no choice and must accelerate harder and this thermal engine is very jerky

Low speed manoeuvring is also iffy, I backed out of the drive this morning and it just decided to set off towards a parked car, so much for the sensors, also if you try to move slowly it just goes so you have to brake quite hard, I believe most Beta testers do not have to pay £20k for the privilege.

I found the same with slow manoeuvres, and trying to move maybe just a couple of inches to park up somewhere, but I've found it much better using regen1.

Hello, i'm from France and i have the same vibration noise in the same conditions as your's. Do you find something ?

Going up hill the engine revs excessively, this is not linear to the accelerator, so I'm guessing the engine is charging the battery.
Irrespective of speed etc, when going uphill depending on the gradient it always goes into 'high rev mode' so presumably it's sensing the Hill and trying to charge the battery perhaps for an expected demand from the driver.
BTW I also have at times a creaking sound from the drivers seat.

I have an appointment with the dealer on 10/21 for a problem with the gear selection wheel which does not return automatically, I will talk to him about it

a message will be sent to you in PM

Yeah, that does make sense.

Are you having the issues looked at?

For my car, right now the dealer said they're waiting on a control assembly part... No idea what that's for. Initially they said they were waiting on a gear selector solenoid.

I hear the same weird sound like you described.
Dealer drove a few hundred kilometers, car was checked. They said it's normal and nothings was found. Please let us know what your dealer thinks about that. ?

already a little reassuring not to be the only one to hear it and I will, without fail, get back to you from my dealer

I went to the dealership this morning, my speed selector is defective, and therefore on order, but as it is not available in Europe, I will have to wait. for the noise of the engine at 60 or 70, he thinks that the engine is under or over-revving and is causing this vibration and for him an update (as reported by DE PARIS) could solve the problem. so when my part arrives, they will check after the updates.
I will keep you informed but when????

Hi, I've been waiting 3 weeks now and still waiting on a part which is on back order. The customer service is non existent at this dealership. They do not keep me updated with what's going on or give me any timelines.

I went to get something from my car today that's currently at the dealership. It looks like the car has just been stood for 3 weeks. Cob webs all over it and rust on the brakes. Not a good sight.
