MG3 Hybrid+ Trophy
I purchased a new MG3 hybrid Trophy on 2/12/2024, I had carried out a lot of research on the vehicle and others similar prior to my choice.

It is a very nice vehicle to drive, good road vision and road handling, I am still getting to grips with the touch screen and settings, shame no printed handbook.

The vehicle is booked into my dealer on Monday 10th February for a diagnostic check on the charging or lack of it.
It will never start with EV always petrol, I can drive for many miles before the EV comes in but not for long, then back to petrol.

Only once have I achieved 60+ mpg now down to 48-51 mpg, I have tried to find information about the charging rates and what they mean, the meter is all over the place but never above 23kW then down to -6kW. What does all of this mean, should it charge at a higher rate it is set on Medium as recommended?

At present I am somewhat disappointed in my purchase, I could have bought a pure petrol engined car.

Welcome to your new MG3 Martinn. What you describe is pretty much normal behaviour for this type of hybrid, especially in these colder months. 60+ mpg is good going in any car, like you, I'm only averaging 48ish in this cold weather. It will improve as the weather warms up. The petrol engine will always kick in first if you have any electrical systems running, such as heating, heated seats/steering wheel etc, because the heating comes from the petrol engine, not the battery. Try starting the car with all other systems closed down before you go to the garage, it will probably fire up in EV mode.
The charging meter does fluctuate in response to whatever the engine is doing, i.e. accelerating, braking, slowing down, all depending on the engine load.
Don't get too down-hearted, you've got a good little car with loads of power, fairly quiet cab, comfortable suspension and loads of goodies, all for 25k. Can't be bad. H

Had this car for nearly 2 months and it depends on how you drive it's only a 36 litre tank.
I drive with no regard to fuel saving get about 48mpg with heated seats,AC etc on and putting foot down.
Tried being a eco person and got to 65mpg before getting bored.
Defrost the car on the drive if icy outside with the app; love it.
£19,000 so far well spent and I like the 360 camera.

Thanks for your responses, yes I have tried with all heating off but it’s only on 23 degrees and fan speed 3, apart from a Flash Drive for music and Dash Cam no other power being used but as I say all off with no difference made.

I have discovered that other vehicles of a similar spec do run on EV once the engine has warmed up this I accept but I have driven 60 miles in my MG3 in daylight before any EV has switched in.

The test vehicle that I drove at the dealership in November never went into petrol running mode at all.

I also like all of the Driving Aids and yes the 360 degree camera is very useful.

Not got the hang of the SatNav without the use of Post Codes yet.
