MG4 & 5 Ventilation

I have noticed a lot more interior condensation in my 4 and 5 than other cars I have owned. I have discovered that a lot of this is down to fact that after using the windscreen quick demist or in fact just using the fan on a low setting the ventilation set up defaults to re-circulation mode, this in itself contributes to the condensation and entails having to constantly use the quick de-mist button. When I have set the ventilation set up back to fresh air, the windows do not steam up as much. I am not an advocate of having the A/C on all the time.
I find it absolutely ridiculous it resets to recirc after any use. Has anyone encountered this or got a solution?

If I am on my own then it seems OK just to have heat on one or two notches and fan just over halfway. (SR Excite) if I have passengers then the fan needs to be higher and maybe another notch of heat.

maybe because having the window partially open is more pleasant as I do whenever I need some fresh air, applies to any car I've owned. My aircon is off 90% of the time from Nov-April.

I hate having the windows down. I find the "thumping" noise very unpleasant.
Back when the kids were young I regularly had to ask them to put the windows back up if I'd forgotten to turn the AC up and they wanted some fresh air.
Nowadays it's when I'm taking the dogs to the groomer that I have to put up with the noise.
IMHO if you want a car with "fresh air" get one designed for it, with a soft top.
You could get a Cyberster

Use your HVAC (air con) else it'll eventually leak ... the oil in the air con "gas" helps to lubricate the seals in the system - stop using it for long enough and the seals will dry out, so that the gas escapes.

Yes thanks, I do use the AC for exactly the reason you suggest but not all the time. My main gripe is that the ventilation defaults to re-circ. Users encountering condensation may find it useful to check air is from outside and not on re-circ.

I always thought mine defaulted to the automatic function, I’ll have to keep an eye on it this week

Mine remembers whatever I last set ... usually Auto but if I'd selected External then it remembers that. It also remembers whatever I last selected for vents.

I don't usually use auto, I will have to play around with it and see what the outcome is. I still stand by the fact it should not default to re-circ whether using Auto or manual.

I had this misting problem all the time and fiddled with lots of settings to try and eliminate it.
The only thing that worked for me is to have AUTO on and live with ac being on all the time.
This won't be an issue when warmer weather comes.

I have not got to the A/C on all the time mode but always make sure that the recirc is off. Since making sure fresh air is coming in it seems to have improved the misting problem somewhat.

Part of the misting is a build up of water vapour in the car from wet feet, damp clothes etc.
I always put a couple of dehuminifier blocks in the door pocket of my MG5. At this time of year they fill up with water within 4 weeks . This cures the problems for me.
It is very important to always make sure the A/C is turned on for a short time whenever you use the car otherwise you will end up with lots of bills later on.

Off topic I know but to stop the thumping noise, just open another window a crack,. Allows the air pressure to equalise and the noise will stop.

Just open a small bit each side sorts it as much as anything

I have not noticed this in my MG5 trophy at all for whatever reason ..
