MG4 Charging Cables

I'm going to have to rely on the granny cable for a while. Can anyone tell me what length the one supplied with the MG4 is? Are there options to get a longer one?

I might have to buy an extension, and was wondering if you can extend the type 2 side, rather than the 3 pin?

Any recommendations for suitable extension cables?

The one I was given was said to be five metres. That looks to be about what it is. I don't know about extension leads although I did see an earlier thread where they were discussed. I'm lucky enough to have good robust metal-cased power points in my garage and one of these is 1.5 metres from my car's charging port when the car is in the garage.

I'm also relying on the granny cable, which keeps up with my driving needs pretty well, plus I have a rapid charger only 400 yards away which is actually marginally cheaper than my home electricity tariff and which will deliver a very useful slug of charge in the 55 minutes maximum time allowed if I come home low and need the car early the next day.

A lot of people deliver grave warnings about electrical safety with granny plugs though, so be careful. (I have friends who relied on one for a year without any issues though, and they don't even have a garage - it was all done in their driveway.)

Surely the charge rating is the power going INTO the car and doesn’t calculate losses into the battery?

In other words, a 64kw battery may need 75kw to charge it. That doesnt need the input current to be frigged to a different number.

No electrical item is 100% efficient and if you see a rating plate on say a lawnmower at 1500w means its drawing that but might only be doing 1100w of work after losses. You dont plate it as 1100w.

Pretty much every charger ive used works to 90% of its rating which gives a fair indication the power the car sees going into it is being indicated as 10% low.
As per @tsedge ... the iSMART app shows the charge rate going into the battery; in my case the charge point app shows the charge rate going into the car. The difference is the losses - the lower the losses, the higher the efficiency. Typical efficiency for me is around 90% unless the car does a BMS balance.

My big disappointment with the charging cable I was persuaded to buy as an extra with the car is that it didn't come with an MG branded bag, but was just some generic A N Other charging cable. Boo, hiss. (It works, though.)

My MG4 came with a 5m type2 to type2 cable, no granny charger - car purchased in Spain

Mine is about 4m from Type 2 connector to the control box, then just over 0.5m from there to the 3-pin plug. (Official MG granny lead that came with the car).

I put the type 2 under the bonnet on top of that plastic tray, where it fits rather well. I'm still a bit miffed that it isn't in an MG branded bag though!

The granny lives in my garage where the car plugs in to it, unless I'm going somewhere where I might need mains charging.

I got a granny cable in an MG branded cuboid case, and a single-phase Type-2 in an MG branded round bag.

There's no MG branding on the Type-2 cable itself though, and I wonder whether it was thrown in by the leasing company, Tusker. It has Tusker branded mats, and a Tusker branded case full of "essentials" like a tread gauge/pressure gauge, an ice scraper and some generic incandescent lightbulbs (!)
