MG4 internet, data limits

If iSMART works, it's not an eSIM problem. It's a software problem.
I try to factory reset my infotainment, lost everything and still not working...

Long time lurker here, but wanted to report the same issue.

I have a Mark 2 Trophy LR and I'm based in the UK.

I took it for it's service last Monday and got the software updated to r59 during the process.

The hotspot functioned perfectly on the way there but hasn't worked since.

The app still works, but the car now frequently shows 2G in areas it used to show 4G.

Regardless of if 2G/4G shows on screen, any connection to the hotspot shows no internet. The toggle in the data management tab can be turned on, but turns straight off.

That's a different problem well known in R59 which does solve by changing in your phone the DNS of the WiFi connection to the hotspot. Set the DNS server to 8.8.8.8 & 1.1.1.1 and it will work

The issue we are having now is that the navigator refuses to gather traffic data from internet. The system menu to enable the network switch refuses to turn on, and the drop down quick settings show the traffic data greyed out .

Exactly that's the point. Weather data is also not available. What else? Better not to know. BTW I am still on R33.

Ha e you guys not worked out that doesn't matter what you do with the car if the APN system is down the SIM will not register, and it's likely siac has there own APN that the cars terminate to and could have been down for maintenance or upgrading to cope with the increase in connections from more cars

There's another option to consider. What about the Internet Data limit of your cellular provider? Suppose the "tarif plan" for your MG connection has ~~500 MB monthly limit. Seems huge, but beware of regular updates of Weather and Traffic data, and you WiFi sharing...

The DNS fix sadly doesn't work for me in this instance.

I mentioned it in this thread though as the exact issues you have mentioned also began for me after the same update.

Anything that requires the car to access the internet, such a traffic information, weather information, hotspot (regardless of the DNS setting used) etc are all unavailable since I got the car back.

I did briefly think the issue fixed when I set off the following morning until I realised that the weather updated using my home WiFi.

When I last spoke to an MG tech he mentioned that there are 2 esims in the car.

If he was correct, then ismart and eSOS could be using one sim and everything else the other.

This might also explain why SE models don't display the 4g signal level.

500MB is anything but huge these days. :)

It's weird, but credible.
In my case, when I faced Tbox issues, everything wasn't working (iSMART, eCall, data on board).
If your tech was correct, it means the Tbox got 2 eSIMs and not just one.
But considering the cost of 2 eSIMs, I'm pretty sure MG doesn't implement 2 eSIMs on his cars. I'll check in the docs

Last Friday I travelled from Crewe to Sheffield via Derby. The SatNav showed all the heavy traffic areas on the way. (R33, no recent updates.)

Question: does the car's time source setting impact the problem?

Hi guys,
I have same issue but in MG Marvel luxury

Can we get "pay" other plan then 1024 MB? My car give the information that "less than 10% of traffic consists of remaining data; Pay attention to use or recharge." Now i can't use MG ISMART. Always gave the information " Remote control instruction failed. Please try again later". Any idea for fixe this?

Thx in advance

Pedro, I've never seen this menu with the red message. Seems not to display on R33. ISmart has always been unreliable, which is bad if you drive using the keyless feature?

The UK does not have the Marvel (yet?). The screen you have is not available in the MG4 and as far as is known there is not a limit on the UK MG4 eSim.

The iSmart error is common in the UK with the most useful solution being to 'wake up' the car by unlocking/locking it but it does not always work.

I suggest you talk to your dealer or wait for an answer on the Marvel Forum.

The first time I ased for the data limit with MG4 (in march 2023), the seller said 2 gigs per month.
But 3 users tell me that they reach 40 or 50 gigs without any fair use thanks to CarLinkit (Netflix or some when they're charging). So, If there is a limit with the MG4, it's a big one...

There is a limit of 5 years after the Infotainment activation.
I only reach one years, so it's not that for my MG4. And after asking, some other owners with less than one year are facing the same issue. We could find the problem here together, we just need more intels...

This is unrelated to this thread but the iSMART digital key system does NOT use mobile data. It uses Bluetooth to the vehicle.

Confusingly you can lock and unlock the vehicle remotely using iSMART and the mobile data stuff but it’s a different mechanism and you cannot start the vehicle using that alone.
