MG4 internet, data limits

As an SR user, but am sure that it does exist (as you can dial into the car in or from any location), not sure what having 'unlimited' data means via the MG4, as albeit in the UK, we have unlimited wifi via BT/EE homehubs + own mobile phone (and / or combined?)

My data came back on the first of September but after a couple of days it was gone again. I have only used it sporadically so I am pretty sure I have not passed the 1GB limit. Do you guys still have data the last few days?

Data back online. So there was an action on the far end.
I had enquired with MG if there has been a contractual change, implementing limited data in the UK. Response:
"Let me clarify this. We haven't changed any contract items on this. We did not provide unlimited data before. So, may I ask who informed you that the data was unlimited? [...] If we have any new change of the data plan we will let customers know. But currently the data is limited to 1 GB per month. There is no way to increase the data amount now. We are internally working on a better strategy on the data limit now because we also received same complaints from other users. Thank you."
Strangely enough I can connect to the hotspot now, but don't get Internet connection through it on my cell phone. This has never happened before. Weird.

Working ok for me at the moment. This newly imposed limit is just not acceptable when there are built in functions of the car that will stop working, and there's is no warning or way of monitoring the data usage.

Here is my exchange with MG's customer services in October 2022

Good morning,
A couple of questions about the "Live Services" (weather, traffic updates and Amazon music) that are included with the MG4 Trophy.
Is there a limit on how much data is included?
How long will these services be free?
Kind Regards
Ian Key

Customer services then contacted someone called David at MG4 live services

Hi David
Sorry to bother you.Is there a time limit on the live services? i.e. is it a 3 month/12 month subscription etc?
Kind regards
Gary

To which the reply was

Hi Gary
There is no limit - no subscription payment is due and we haven't been given a time frame if it were to ever run out...
Regards
David

I was then forwarded the email exchange as above with the reply

Dear Mr Key
Thank you for your enquiry.
Please see below, there is no restrictions on these services.
Kind regards
Gary

This is the 'About' screen in my navigation which gives an end date for my connected services. Got the car on Oct 26th 2022 so it's just under 5 years or a bit less if the date is in US format.

ISO 8601 date format YYYY-MM-DD is an international date format designed explicitly to be difficult to confuse with all local date formats. As stated above if it starts with 4 digits and a hyphen it really should be YYYY-MM-DD. Hopefully there are no programmers left who don't know this.

I'm really not impressed that the download limit was not made clear at purchase and that the monthly limit seems to have decreased since I bought the car - why would it run out this August, and only August, and not any previous month despite no change in how it is used?

I don't think there was a limit to tell me about when I bought mine. We've used the hotspot freely with my wife streaming videos for hour after hour on long journeys with no problems until August this year when it suddenly stopped. Nearer the end of the month we'll try streaming away again and see how long it works.

I actually had access to data traffic again on September 1st from 12 p.m., but that only lasted until September 6th!

Check made on the car, I have 1.68 GB used from August 10 to September 10, I therefore exceed the quota of 1 GB ... however, I only used ABRP (trip to Brittany) and just an app installation on my CarlinKit tbox Plus AI Box!

I'm seriously considering buying a data SIM card with at least 10 GB of data per month for the Carlinkit, but I don't know which one to choose...

Giffgaff plan is £10 per month for unlimited calls and texts plus 15GB data. That's PAYG ... if you opt for a monthly rolling plan then £10 gets you 20GB data.

There are other plans with lower data levels, and obviously other providers.

(I'm assuming the Carlinkit has a SIM slot?)

And I get 70GB a month, unlimited calls/texts, European roaming for £9.95 a month with talk mobile. I don't ever use anywhere near the 70GB so should really drop down to to 40 or 50 and save some money.

I thought it was unlimited, and having an autistic 9 year old, that would've been great.

I came to the end of my phone contract, so just took one out with ID mobile, for unlimited data, just before we went on holiday, and it was great. Connected the car to it as well, so everything worked.

Still a bit angry at the loss of data in the car, but all's well...

Thank you both! Looks like I get just under 5 years of connection and then my sat nav just becomes a map.
I can't believe (well I can :ROFLMAO: ) that there won't be a way of renewing the data when it ends? Surely MG can't expect every car to lose connected services for good after only 5 years? I guess you can connect the car to a phone hotspot but still, no way of replacing the actual built in SIM?

I lost data last month

It was restored at the start of September

I've used it a handful of times (like an hour or two in total) to listen to Amazon music from the built in app

Data has stopped working again
I won't have even have touched the sides of 1gb this time

What is going on MG!!!!?
