The easiest way to see it is to jack up rear ns (jacking point on the sill) , remove the NS rear wheel and you can then see (with help from a torch)where the breather exits the gearbox at the top front of the box. The modified breather is a black Z shaped pipe with the top hat style breather fitted at the top of the pipe. Any oil leak should be evident from the breather then runs down the gearbox casing onto the undertray. This thread is like a million posts long now. Is there a way to easily see where the problem area (breather location?) is without removing wheels etc? If so, how is this done, and is it worth adding to the Tips thread so new owners can try to check?
Thanks for that explanation. I think this and pics, if anyone has taken any of course, should be added to the tips thread so anyone can easily perform the checks themselves. The easiest way to see it is to jack up rear ns (jacking point on the sill) , remove the NS rear wheel and you can then see (with help from a torch)where the breather exits the gearbox at the top front of the box. Sorry I didn't take any pics when I took the wheel off to check if my car had the modified breather. I just regularly check for leaks now by inspecting the undertray and you can see the bottom of the gearbox without removing the wheel by shining a torch just in front of the NS rear wheel. Thanks for that explanation. 100% agree Les it's a shambles, as has been said this issue doesn't seem to be happening with the newer cars, if they have made a modification come out and say.Your probably right Ian, but that I couldn’t care less about, the point was to point out we are now 150 pages and 3000 posts into this ridiculous situation and MG Motors are allowing it to continue without any guaranteed fix.

Mine hadn’t worked mine was fitted 5/6 weeks ago only just noticed the leak could have been sooner but noticed the large patches on driveway it’s not goodI've only just had breather mod MK2 fitted, so I'll need to monitor it.
I'm really puzzled by this. My very early car has been cured by the modified breather and I'm giving it the full beans on the German Autobahn twice every day for ten miles.Mine hadn’t worked mine was fitted 5/6 weeks ago only just noticed the leak could have been sooner but noticed the large patches on driveway it’s not good
not sure but my drive and under tray is drenched in oil after having the new breather fitted.not used the car much in 4 weeks either around 150milesI'm really puzzled by this. I wonder if it can be fitted incorrectly, but it looks like a not too complicated job.
It sounds like dealer incompetence to me too but hard to know for sure.I'm really puzzled by this. My very early car has been cured by the modified breather and I'm giving it the full beans on the German Autobahn twice every day for ten miles.

Possibility but 2 different dealers had it in and was checked by both 2 different technicians as I think they were fed up of me going in the garage with issues as I have had a few different issuesIt sounds like dealer incompetence to me too but hard to know for sure.
