MG4 steaming up problem

Hi, so mine was misting up also when not set to outside air but anytime I use the a then it switches back to inside air not the outside? I have to go back and re select outside air each time? Very annoying
Is it set to auto On the fan

Just make sure you leave AC on and you'll have no misting problems.

The mode doesn't matter - I leave
mine permanently on ECO mode with AUTO recirculating air and AC always on (never turn it off).

Then I just vary the fan speed and temperature. Never have any misting problems.

A few people who have had bad misting found it was because of water leaks into the cabin (eg a bad seal), this is a possibility. One or two have had faulty AC, so the moisture is not removed from the air.

Operating the HVAC in the MG4 is confusing and often requires use of the touch screen which can be tricky when on the move. I've had the car about 3 weeks now and still haven't sussed it all out. However, I know about using the right * button to get to temp and fan speed adjustment. The screen demist physical button works quickly at least. After that is switched off, the physical AC button remains on with the auto AC mode active. I'm never quite sure what the settings then are for air entry and direction and I need to go into the full AC menu to find out. I read something about the AC compressor defaulting to off when driving in ECO mode. The car seems to remember my fan and temp settings (3 and 23 degrees).

I have to say it was all much simpler to understand and operate in my old Skoda ICE.

My new (fabulous!) MG4 Trophy keeps fogging up! The recirculation setting is set
to outside air but unless the fan is on no air appears to be coming in. Is it always necessary to have fan on (?battery drain?) Or shouldn't the forward motion of the car let air in? Any thoughts anyone? Many thanks!
The MG4 Trophy ER is my second and they both do the same thing, no air flow unless the fan is running. It fogs up a bit but a quick blast with the demist switch clears it very quickly. I have to say that I worry less about the GOM dropping 10 or so miles, in this weather I leave it on auto with A/C on and the misting doesn't occur.
I agree with you, fab car, that's why I bought another?

My approach is to use auto fan speed , recirculation set to outside , screen vents always open . Only use AC when I need it and temp set to 23 - 24 , Misting only occurs when raining or damp weather and a quick blast on the demist button sorts this out quickly. Works for me .?

What's auto fan speed? Doesn't auto refer to AC climactic control?

It also adjusts fan speed as needed ... e.g. to do a rapid cool down I've had my fans going full blast, without me touching or adjusting anything related to HVAC.

2022 SR SE. A/C and recirc on auto and set to 23 deg C. I haven’t changed these settings for nearly 2 years. Never had any steaming up problems. Quick demist and off I go. That’s with living in NE Scotland (slightly damp!) and having two wet dogs in the car.

There are 2 auto settings. One for AC which I don't use and also auto fan speed which varies the fan speed depending how far away you are from the temperature you have set . It can start fast then slows down once the desired temp is reached . Works for me.

Thanks. I'll take another look.

My old Land Rover didn't fog up during the Norwegian winter weather unless under occasional extreme conditions, but the MG4 easily fogs even during our mild autumn weather. Would defiantly appear to be a MG4 character, so I'm wondering how it will be in winter. However, using the demister and or heater clears the windows immediately, so maybe that's what the 'shortcut' buttons are for.

I'm finding that I usually need to have the fan on set to the windscreen with no air recycling, i.e. fresh air coming in, in order to keep the windscreen clear of mist. AC is off, ECO mode active (I drive in ECO mode). There is a fan auto symbol on. I'm not yet sure if the heater is operative. I assume it is. So if I set the temp to 22 degree then it's heating incoming air (assuming colder outside). If warmer outside then I assume no heating is taking place, and no cooling because AC is off.

It seems to remember these settings after using the demister for a minute or two when needed.

The purpose of the A/C is to dehumidify the air. If you switch off A/C then you are relying on heating up the windscreen enough to keep it from misting up but it’s a forever fighting battle.

The air blowing up the windscreen keeps it clear most of the time without having the compressor on.

Worth mentioning that it is a good idea to keep air conditioning on year round as it keeps exercising the components which is good for the system. Essentially:

- The AC button below the screen turns the whole ventilation system on and off. There is very little ventilation without it (no open vents).

- Within the ventilation screen, the AC button turns the air conditioning on and off (air compressor / condenser / drier / etc...). The effect of air conditioning is to dry the air and optionally cool it if required.

- The next button controls the air recirculation: it can be set to recirculate cabin air (eg if in traffic fumes), use fresh air, or automatically switch for you.

- Then there's a button to control the blower fan speed: you can set it to auto or manually adjust.

Generally speaking, if the whole ventilation system is off, you'll need a window cracked open. If the air conditioning is off you may get some demisting depending on the temperature outside and the humidity. With the air conditioning on, you'll get a lot of demisting because air conditioning dries the incoming air considerably.
