MG4 Trophy map update – BEWARE

If you are doing it on a Mac you just need to make sure the USB drive is FAT file system and you use one of the cleanup tools to remove all the hidden folders and files that the Mac adds to the drive.
Very helpful, thank you. I successfully downloaded the files from the MG Europe site via my Mac. I will try updating the Satnav at the weekend. If it fails I’ll do as you suggest.

I updated the maps yesterday with the latest file, Q42023, if I remember correctly.

I have a question for anyone on the latest satnav maps though, in another forum I have seen someone saying that the new maps introduce real time battery calcs. I assume that is to tell you with how much battery % you’re expected to arrive at your destination. But after updating to the latest maps yesterday, the satnav software looks exactly the same as before and I don’t see any battery options.

I am on infotainment R40. Could it be that this only works with newer infotainment versions?! Or did I understand this battery thing wrong?!

Thanks for any help.

Reading through the posts I see that there is a newer version of the SatNav program - the maps update is just that. I think a dealer has to install the SatNav.
Yeah I was thinking that. The maps update might just be that, an update to the maps and not the satnav system itself.

I would be interested to know if the lucky ones that have got the latest infotainment system/satnav/maps/etc, have ever seen the battery % thingy to tell them how much battery will be left when they get to their destination.

I bought my car around 1 year ago, so I need to take it in for servicing, and I am going to ask my dealership to update everything to latest. I don't really have any issues with the car, possibly apart from LKA here and there (like everyone seems to have), but I'll make sure I tell them the car has other problems to kind of force them to update the different softwares.

If anyone has any info in regards to the satnav and battery %, please let us know.

Cheers

Please see post from @Odin on page 12.

If you want to know how much charge you will have left at a destination then, assuming a linear energy use and starting with 100% charge:

100% * (100% range - destination range)/ (100% range)

If starting with less than 100% subtract the percentage already used.

If @Odin's new SatNav schedules charging so as to achieve a specified SOC at the destination (as in one of his photos) then you could keep adjusting that SOC until the SatNav does not schedule a charge. Note ABRP (route planner) can do this.

Or you could use the Accumulated miles/kWh figure to work out how many kWh you will use and work out percentage remaining from the max kWh your car has.

But any figures will be approximate as it will depend on your driving history, speed, regen factors and use of the hvac.

Hi all, I downloaded maps, added to usb and started upgrade in car with instructions from previous posts. It all went to end and then gave me message that upgrade failed, however it appears the map is now q42023 when I check the map version. Did anyone else experience this?

That didn’t happen to me. I would try it again to make sure the upgrade went well. And if you have the same error, I would copy to the USB stick again and do it again.

Yes I tried to upgrade a second time and same outcome. I then extracted data again to usb stick but this time after formatting to ntfs ( as someone mentioned previously that it failed in exfat and then worked on ntfs). However this did not make a difference either. This was the maps from EU site. I might try the other version from the China site posted above.

I got the r59 upgrade on Friday and it adds an ev planner button to the infotainment which plans the journey based on parameters you enter like how low you would like battery to go before charging. It then plans your trip with charging stations added and when you hit go it transfers the route over the the regular satnav program to begin. Its a nice addition but is a little inflexible as you don't get option to choose an alternative charger in the route if you don't like the one the algorithm chooses for you.

Do you have a photo/screenshot of this, as I had r59 installed last week, but haven't located any change in the satnav so far...

I believe the SatNav is a separate software module and its update is not part of the infotainment version.

@Ngall is in Ireland (EU) and thus may get different support (and friendlier dealers) than the UK. In the past @Corindikev (AUS) posted that their MG dealer said there was a new SatNav version coming but again that's not UK.

Use the second page on the main screen, you'll see the planner named EV Route

So yeah, that option is there (UK R59 + "other updates" done by dealer last week)

Only thing is, when I tried it, it seemed to think I was in Berlin (even though normal satnav was correct). Will switch off and try again tomorrow... ?
