MG4 Trophy map update – BEWARE

Did you by any chance lose your car eSim connectivity when you got your R59 update like many others and are using your phone's hotspot to allow car to go online. The reason I ask is that I have the same issue and when I access car services via my phone wifi hotspot it locates me in Berlin in the route planner hence making any route planning impossible, but if I connect car to the house wifi, it locates me at my home address. Not sure why my phone hotspot would give location of Berlin as its an Irish sim card.

Someone mentioned on Facebook that there is an R64 update which is soon to be released which cures the hotspot fault.
Best taken with two pinches of salt, one because it was on Facebook and the other because it's MG.

So, it seems to put me in Berlin if I have my phone connected by Bluetooth (nothing else, just standard Bluetooth connection). If I switch off my phone Bluetooth, it correctly puts me where I actually am!

Interesting... still would be soooo much better if there was a web page with a list of releases and fixes and new features. Come on MG, up your game!

R59 also started in the rumor section. But it is real, albeit only for UK owners. If R64 is indeed coming, it could explain why MG refuses to deliver R59 in Europe.
On the other hand, new versions in Italy seem to have a different version as well. Could be related to new hardware though.

I downloaded the map update from the MG UK website. I wasn’t asked for a VIN. It was a straight link and took ages and even longer to unzip to a USB stick. I’ll try to install tomorrow. It seems to be the Q4 2023 map.????

The attempt to update always ends with an error, see photo.

I tried both FAT32 and exFAT format. I downloaded the maps by VIN from the following sources:

Do you know why the error is still displayed?

If you're on an earlier version of the infotainment system, there are two files on the USB that you need to delete before starting the update:

VN.txt and File_verification

If you delete those from the root of the USB and try it again that may resolve it for you.

Usually md5 is to check the integrity of files and that nothing is missing. This is in computer terms, not just for MG. So I wonder if some files didn’t copy properly or are damaged. Did you try with a different usb stick?!

Also, did you unpack and copy to the usb stick on Windows?

Hledal jsem aktualizaci mapy SatNav a naší webovou stránku MG

User manuals

Stáhl si někdo verzi 22Q2 202208040318 a úspěšně ji spustil?

Nebylo by o tyto aktualizace zajištěno, když je vůz servisován a je nainstalována správná verze pro Spojené království?
To je otázka, kterou bych se měl zeptat prodejců.
THE

VN.txt a File_verification

Pokud je odstraníte z kořenového adresáře USB a zkusíte to znovu, může to vyřešit za vás.
Opravdu stačilo smazat 2 soubory. Děkuju. Aktualizace proběhla úspěšně.

These appear to be translations into Czech of earlier posts in English. The reply at least should be in English however. The reply reads

"It was really enough to delete 2 files. Thank you. The update was successful."

@baader, please post your replies in English, even if you have translated the original posts into Czech. It would be preferable if you did all the translation off-site and only posted in English.

Further posts without English content will be deleted.

@baader, zasílejte prosím své odpovědi v angličtině, i když jste původní příspěvky přeložili do češtiny. Bylo by vhodnější, kdybyste veškerý překlad provedli mimo web a zveřejnili pouze v angličtině.

Další příspěvky bez obsahu v angličtině budou smazány.

Thank you! I was having no luck with the update until I deleted those two files. After doing that it updated the maps with no problems. I'm still on R33.

Just to give peace of mind to anyone dithering about updating their satnav - I have just done mine without drama. I used a PC (not a Mac) to download the update from the MG Europe site. You need to add your VIN to access the download. Download took approx 20 mins. Unzipping took a couple of hours. Installing in the car took about 20 mins (it takes about 5 mins for the installation to start proper so be patient).
Previous attempts after downloading the update using a Mac failed (even after removing superfluous files on the USB stick).

I managed to update without issues using the following process on a Windows 11 laptop and MG4 XPower:

1) https://iov-mapmg.soimt.com
2) Enter VIN only (no need for fingerprint)
3) Click on map link to download (it's a ~17GB so it takes a while)
4) Formatted 32GB USB key to exFAT
5) Extracted "Maps" folder to the same folder on the USB Key (this took several hours)
6) Connected USB key to car and navigated to the map update section (system menu)
7) Followed instructions and waited for "OK" button to be selectable then waited

The car did an MD5 check first then copied then another check which makes sense - that took about 25 minutes as others have said. It then asked to reboot and I now have the latest maps.
It worked exactly as described (35 mins probably due to the cheap memory card I'm using)
Infotainment menu is
Swipe to right panel - Settings - System - Map & VR Data USB Upgrade
