MG4 Undertray Gap - MG Fix inbound?

I get a bang noise back left on occasions when turning to go up a driveway. There has also been a shudder. Is this to do with the one pedal driving or this undertray business?

You can rule in/out the undertray simply by looking. Does it look like it has suffered any impact damage or show signs of scraping?

I’ve had a little look under my car and can’t see anything obviously wrong.

I know this is a common problem but am struggling to understand why it even matters (short of it coming off). Why is this actually a concern? Does it tend to break off or something like that?

The possibility of dirt, debris and (most likely) water getting into the mechanics of the car is my concern.

Everything looks OK underneath. The boot is ok too. Suspension is excellent in every other situation.
Guess I'll just have to wait on the service people to test it out. It is a solid thump. Strange that it only happens in the one place. Thanks for your help people.

Good news, I think. My dealer contacted me today in relation to the software update I have been nagging them about, and said, by the way there is now an MG fix available for the undertray, we'll do that at the same time.

Woow! I hope this one comes to the EU as well. Mine is suffering from it after 6 months.

I have just had the under tray replaced under warranty. Although it is an improvement it is not 100%. It was just a draught replacement there was no additional support along the front edge.
Interestingly when I collected the car the service manager told me that mine was the last warranty replacement that they would carry out, as MG had told them they would no longer authorise them.

That could mean two things:
1. They do not care
2. They will introduce the front edge bar.

My undertray gap hasn't changed, but I've only done 3k miles and all short low speed journeys.
No sign of any oil leaks either, that's without the breather mod.

Given that my dealer told me quite spontaneously that MG were rolling out a fix which they could apply when the car goes in for the software update, I reckon it's 2.

Maybe this thread should be linked to from the pinned tips post? I've spent all day reading another undertray thread (or two) of nearfy 50 pages before realising there is an official fix/bodge.

I rang and emailed my dealer on Saturday to report the significant bulges in the undertray of my MG4 collected the day before, and have now followed up with details of the availability of this support bar, asking for it to be fitted under warranty. If I don't hear from them tomorrow I will chase on Tuesday. It clearly is warranty issue and i'd say a safety isssue with trays breaking off whilst driving on motorways.

My dealer rang me and the car is booked in for Monday. I was speaking to some admin who then asked me what the issue was, (I said bulging undertray) so I don't know if they are aware of the new support bar or not. I'll try to have a word when I take it in.

I took the car in today. They were unaware of the support bar fix. I was being told the bulging undertray was a "characteristic of the car". Half the problem was communicating via the service front desk rather than direct with the technical staff. I had a photo of the support bar on my phone. Anyway, after much to-ing and fro-ing they reported they could after all do this "new" fix under the warranty, so they will order the part and it's booked to go in again on 11th October.

Just be aware that the part/bulletin number in the UK may be different.
