MG4 X Power Vibe/Hum 65 to 75mph

Just got this from MG UK....at least it's logged...

"Thank you for contacting MG customer service.

I have raised your query to the department, and they have advised the following:

This could be related to the fitment of the damper but only if your vehicle has not already had this fitted.

It is highly possible that the vibration is a characteristic of the vehicle like many other highly powered vehicles.

But this is subject to intensity of the vibrations.

It will be a matter of waiting for your appointment with Chorley but at least you now have the above information to communicate to them.
Good to see consistency from MG UK in that they continue to treat customers with utter contempt and with an underlying assumption that we aren't a very bright bunch.

I'd completely forgotten about the vibrations I've experienced in many highly powered vehicles that I've previously owned - my memory must be terrible.

Absolute Codswallop!!!

"A characteristic of highly powered vehicles"!!!

BOILS MY PISS.

My 500bhp M5 did not vibrate.
Neither did my 520bhp E63AMG
or my 500bhp VXR Monaro or my
430bhp Escort Cosworth or my 400bhp RS4 or my 343bhp M3..........
You get the picture....

MG please stop talking BOLLOX!

And.............Relax.

My dealer, Howards MG decided they didn't want to carry on with the MG franchise so gave this up back in May 24...I wonder why?🤔

I received an email from MG UK agreeing that any dealer can fit the damper for me, I just need to ask the dealer direct.

I asked Vospers MG Plymouth to install the steering damper, spoke to a service representative about it who asked me to email them, I did on 7th Oct, I have had no reply.

I then emailed Hendy MG Exeter on 24th October requesting the same...again no reply.

So I have given up, it's just adding the fuel to my pissed off fire and I am rejecting the car through Reject My Car

I shall now go back to the manufacturers of the 'high powered cars' i have previously owned demanding they compensate me for the lack of vibration......

Couldn't make it up really but it's all all part of then paper trail in case I do decide to go down formal rejection route.

I'll upnthe tryes to 40 psi and let Chorley MG do their thing once I get it in with them, then make a decision.

Staggeringly running at 40psi has made a real difference for myself and others.

On the flip side others have reported no change or it made matters worse.

Indeed, it was so bad for our old friend CooperS, he took a financial hit to get rid of his car after just a few months.

And there in a very brief time period is the perfect example of MG UK and how they treat their customers.
@seamust1000 dealer appeared to have some morals and got rid off the franchise.

I dare any fan boy/girls to come in this thread and excuse this service, you are all receiving, with the party line of my cars fine, it's a foible it's just part of the routine with the car

Absolute joke of a company, punting out cars riddled with faults and couldn't care less.

We have no money whatsoever tied up in the wife's trophy and we don't pay a penny for it but it really makes me wish the next year away so it can go, the company has already said they won't be replacing them with more MGs as there have been soany issues reported

Not just the MG4, you have various issues and annoyances with the new MG3, some problems are already being reported with the Cyberster.

Why am I not surprised.

It would seem that no matter how much you are willing to shell out on your MG product, you won't be immune from an issue, or two, or three, or four.......

Just for me today, I forgot to switch off the LKA, so the car helpfully nudged me away from the verge I was deliberately moving towards and into the path of a slurry tractor who fancied all of the road.

Also the e call did its now seemingly daily disappearing act.

The ever present vibes. (Obvs)

(Not sure I've ever mentioned them tbf?)

My newest characteristic is the message

"Google Maps needs location access"

No it doesn't.
It already has it.
Has done for the last 13 months with zero issues.

Next time the car starts......all back to 'normal'

I have said previously that I was on the fence regarding another MG purchase but I'm now firmly off the fence by quite some distance, and on my way to......Amarillo?

Probably.🤣

Sadly, I haven’t heard a peep from or old friend @CooperS who I know has deleted himself.☹️
I was looking forward to seeing if his Grass was any Greener with the Polestar 2.

Big old lump of a car the polestar 2, great software proper Google like Renaults.

I really like the look of the new Alpine, not rapid quick but supposed to be a great drive and quite nimble as just over 1400 kg which is pretty light for an EV

There is lots of new metal taking my fancy.
My choice will need V2L.
No V2L?
Off the list you will go.

(A requirement for this off grid household)

I'm sure the new Renaults are which will mean the alpine should be
Yes the Renault 5 that the Alpine a290 is based on has V2L so I’m sure it will.

Given the initial road tests, if this had been available for sub £40k when we were looking at the x-power, we would have the Alpine on the drive. Yes it’s substantially slower but sounds like one of the first EVs that actually has a drivers chassis.

Some classics here

My fav from this list is...
You might be getting vibes from the fitment of the damper but only if you don't already have the damper.

or in other words...
If we tried to fix it by fitting this thing that didn't fix it, then the thing we fitted to fix it is not the thing that will fix it.

It's like this Danny Kaye scene in The Court Jester...

Or from the genius comic mind of Spike Milligan

The problems many of you have had with the XPower makes me reconsider purchasing one myself, despite them now being available new and unregistered from just £25,350, barely the cost of a 4 year old Model 3 Performance. I am sure the Model 3 is a better car in every way (although build quality is not brilliant) but it is still a 4 year old car, without warranty v a brand new car with a 7 year warranty.

Has MG definitively fixed the vibration problem on all new XPowers or is it still affecting certain cars?

Personally I have no confidence it has been fixed although it was supposed to have been so the only way to check for sure is to drive the actual car you are planning to purchase at the know issue speeds before parting with any cash.

Unfortunately, driving the actual car first won't be possible, as these cars are new and unregistered, not demos.

Then it's a leap of faith somewhat. Supposedly cars manufactured after December 2023 are meant to have been fixed (check the manufacture date on the Certificate of Conformity). Check dealer is aware of the issue and make it clear the car will be rejected if present is the best you can do.
