MG4 XPOWER
Hello everyone, I’m new to the forum and just wanted to ask a question. We collected our MG4 Xpower 2 weeks ago and do love the car. My question is should the car have come with the two charging cables that MG advertise on their sales website, or just the one type 2 cable that we received with the car. The salesman at the dealer said that the Xpower only comes with one cable. Has anyone else been told this?
Thanks in advance.

This is a regular question. The answer is - how did you buy it? Did you buy it or lease it? What did you negotiate with the seller?

For a normal sale (cash or PCP) then it typically just comes with the granny (3-pin) cable. If you want also a Type 2 cable then you should have negotiated this with the seller.

For a lease or Motability contract then it typically comes with both cables.

Thanks for your response. I paid cash for it and called the dealer when I got home and they said MG now only provide the type 2 cable now with their electric vehicles, not sure how true that is though, as the sale website clearly states, type 2 cable and the granny charger with 3 pin plug.

I'd take a screenshot of the website and show your dealer.

This.

Imagine buying a kettle, getting it home, and having no way to plug it into the mains.

EV's are electrical transportation appliances, and should come with the Granny Charger as an absolute minimum. (Mine did)

All IMO. (Obvs)

Note: Not exactly the definition of the word 'appliance' ?

This is going to make me sound like a technical numpty - but I think there is also the question of what type of Type 2 cable! My MG4 is a year old this month, and came with a Type 2 that could only charge at something like 5kw. I had a higher rated cable already and my charging time halved. A neighbour regularly uses the same on street 22kw charger as me, and a lower rated Type 2 and seems to take 24 hours to charge. I keep suggesting he invests in a better cable (and frees the charger up)

I’m not entirely clued up on the fastest charging cable, as I’m a newby’ to the electric vehicle gang, but here’s the one that came with the car.

That's a single phase 32A cable, so will support up to 7.4kW charging. Depending on whether you have a Phase 1/MY22 LR car (no rear wiper) or a Phase 2 / MY23 (with rear wiper) car then your car will support either up to 11kW charging (which needs a minimum of a 3 phase 16A cable) at a suitable charge point (11kW or 22kW), or up to 6.6kW charging (the rating of the car's onboard charger) in which case your existing cable is fine.

MY22 LR = 11kW
MY23 LR = 6.6kW
All SE SR = 6.6kW

Thanks for all the info everyone, I reckon I have a lot to learn about our new electric car ? it is an Xpower registered early this year on a 73 plate ?
Easy way to tell is look at the physical charging port on the car.
Above the "covered" DC port, the bottom 2 large holes will have pins in or they wont.
And the corresponding holes in the charging cable will either have them or they wont. (your pics above says not)

I don't think the x-power has these, as it uses the same battery gubbins as the 2nd gen LR cars.
Which means as people have said above, a single phase - type 2 lead - offering upto 6.6kW if the charger can output that.
3 pin granny plug wont do that
Home wall charger should do.

However once you get out of AC charging and onto the super fast 100kW+ petrol station chargers, it's a different ball game :) (edit: for charging speed and price!)

To be honest, I don't think people expect to receive charging cables when buying 2nd hand. ?‍♂️
It is a bonus but it is hardly going to imperil a sale. Many people with a home tethered charger hardly ever (or never) use any of their cables anyway.
