MG4 XPOWER
Hello everyone, I’m new to the forum and just wanted to ask a question. We collected our MG4 Xpower 2 weeks ago and do love the car. My question is should the car have come with the two charging cables that MG advertise on their sales website, or just the one type 2 cable that we received with the car. The salesman at the dealer said that the Xpower only comes with one cable. Has anyone else been told this?
Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone and thanks again for all your input. It’s OFFICIAL, I spoke to MG UK in Birmingham this morning and they said that the current XPower models do only come with the 1, single type 2 cable. Maybe the older ones came with both, they didn’t seem to know for sure which is a bit rubbish. But there it is, so at least I don’t feel like I’ve been had over by the dealership, that I’ve been waiting two weeks for my call returning from, but that’s another story ?

FWIW, the granny cable is much more useful when out and about (in my experience) than a Type 2 cable ... I've got both (bought my own Type 2) but I've never yet used the Type 2 cable, but I have used the granny cable several times.

I used my type 2 cable four times on my recent road trip. I only used the granny cable once, just to get some free sunshine from my host's roof - I didn't need it. Depends where you go I suppose.

Handy to have a granny charger available though, just in case your ludicrously expensive wall charger fails. Have you ever looked inside one of those things? There's nothing that justifies the price the manufacturers charge for them.

I got my Xpower through a lease and it did come with both cables. If you makes you feel any better though @tino the MG granny cable was too short for me and I bought a ten metre one from EV Cable Shop, which should give me more flexibility if I need to use it away from home. The MG granny cable is supposed to be 5 metres, but it seemed shorter than that!

To be fair ... until you got your solar panels and wall box recently you'd have been near-enough scuppered for several months without your granny cable. ;)

Oh yes. I used it exclusively at home for a year and still have it ready to hand in the garage. And I always take it on a long trip, in the same way I'd have taken a can of petrol in my Golf.

It's four metres. I measured it.

As per @Rolfe it is 4m (or maybe just over that). Like her I carry a heavy duty extension cable in the car for the times when a longer reach is needed between car and 3-pin socket - much cheaper than a longer granny cable. :)

Horses for courses, I'd say! I've used my type 2 cable loads of times when out and about but never yet had my granny cable out of it's bag. Having said that, my car was one of the early ones that got a type 2 cable instead of a granny charger and I did get the dealer to swap them when granny chargers became available as I already had a type 2 cable form a previous ev. And I wouldn't want to be without the granny cable as an emergency backup!

I had both but don’t use either as most chargers are tethered.

Have exact opposite use case: use the granny to charge at the kids’ place over night pretty regularly , used the type 2 once or twice a week when I lived in London to take advantage of free charging in the car park. Now only when staying at a hotel overnight.

Car collected last Tuesday and Leeds dealer said you get a cable but depends what MG have put in the car…

My XPower has 3 Pin plug charger…

No offer from dealer to add/replace with Type 2 and no mention of website/advert that states supplied with 2 cables…

UPDATE: the dealership called me last week and informed me that they had sourced a 3 pin charger for my car and I could go collect it. Probably after I’d complained on the phone that I’d been waiting two weeks for somebody to confirm whether the car should have been sold to me with one in the first place. So thanks again to everyone for your replies and input. It seems it should have been sold with both cables in the first place.
