MG4 XPower pet peeves…

Not had the issue personally but have noticed that the HVAC reverts to internal circulation mode frequently so I change it to arrow into car/external circulation and seems to do the job fine.

This is something I think I've only seen Trophy owners complain about. The SE seems to stay where you set it.

Almost 500 miles in and all going well (mainly). I have the 65+ vibration but not a major issue for me at the moment as most driving is below that speed. Annoying brakes screeching in reverse only. Other than that, I'm very happy. I spend 10secs each drive quickly changing LKA to middle option (not emergency lane change), Front Collision to alert only and OPD on. Mainly using heated seat & s/wheel with HVAC to clear windows if required. Average is currently 2.8 ml/kWh. I'm driving normally for me, fast when needed, relaxed otherwise but not planning to lose licence just because it can beat a lot of cars.
Vibration: MG are sending a steering damper for the dealership to fit to my car. This is a trial to see if it has any impact. Will report back whether this has any impact.

Screeching brakes: I had exactly the same issue for 3 weeks. At first pass, they thought it was down to "the weather". I returned it yesterday and they stripped the brakes to find what they called "glazing" on the disks, which they cleaned. So far, so good. I'll double check when I reverse out of the garage this morning.

Good luck with the damper, hope it works. I'm booked in for 28th Dec. The brake issue is strange as it only seems to happen when in reverse and braking not in neutral and braking?

Mine was screeching when braking repeatedly at slow speeds, for example when shuffling forward at a roundabout, but was noticably worse in reverse. The garage said they observed it in reverse, and that glazing can occur on new vehicles? Never had it with any other car.

A common issue with EVs due to regen braking and not discs. When safe to do so brake hard forward and reverse or brake a lot more for a period of time.

I have the same with my MG ZS EV Mark 1, except that it does sometimes squeak very slightly in neutral, and very loudly almost always in reverse, only when backing down our slightly sloping driveway.

I can't understand how neutral makes any difference, but it certainly does.

Wetting the disks (e.g. washing the car) also seems to quieten them. Maybe this dislodges the glazing, though it seems unlikely to me.

I get a squeal with mine when reversing out of my drive but not going forward thankfully.

As said a good weekly hard braking session from 70mph (when safe) is recommended by many experienced EV owners.

Yep same here. I've done 30k miles and driving EVs since 2010 and you'd be surprised how many people aren't aware of this. I give the brakes a clean on way down hill towards main road each day (overnight rain build-up etc). A quick flick into neutral when safe and a good few long dabs and presses on the brake and you can hear the pads doing their thing. All good after that, until I need to reverse!

Hello there, I'm an only 4week owner of a MG4 Xpower, I have lot of things that are a problem.

There is a Lot to upgrade of software to be upgraded for the future, hopefully.
My first experence with this car is in some way very awful, maybe my reference is too high to expect in this car, from my old Mini Cooper F56 2017.

First problem is the wiper. if they are in auto mode, the second you open the door you will get a wipe and get wet before entering the car, WHY does that function "not" wait to the gear lever is set for Drive or Reverse. to wiper first time.. That's kind of annoying.
Next Why does the wiper not setting a level of speed down in interval speed then the car is stop for Red light. like BMW/MINI does. and make a automatic wipe then the gas pedal or automatic TJA is active, that is so outdated, and damn MG4 for not having a rain sensor.. my last 3 cars had that as standard so i didn't even think this would be a issue.
MG(4) has forgot there can be back passenger in this car that could need light, why isn't there any light for the back passenger, the sensor is there to trick the door is open.. that's so annoying.
next the horrible drive assistant system, i have in my last 3 cars has speed limit sign reading, all of them flash 3-5time and get solid then driving to fast, but this MG4 keep on going flashing, i Loose focus on road because of this disturbing shit.. there is so many faults in this brand new MG4 Xpower model.. but the car is good, the programming and software sucks. really sucks.... it's actually horrible to live with.
And WHY can´t the cabin not be preheated with timer, You can preheat the battery with a time function, but not the cabin, but you can do it 10min before you need to go. that doesn't help in early morning. that is so stupid design.. also then you set to preheat for battery then the preheating starts up the front and back light turn on, WHY you are not even in the car. (WHY use that extra power).. and WHY is that needed, to tell my neighbours I'm preparing for driving so they can clean the road for me.. Such a weird design.. makes no sense at all.
Also Then i press "P", why do the front light still on, the point of press "p" as in active parking" is mostly means you are prepare for exit the car, why is the high power front and back light still on (again using not needed extra power for that).. so stupid design again. then the car is set for park the light may be usable with park light on, not low beam and certainly not back light.. so wired. so poor design.
And mainly WHY does the car NOT remember the last drive setting, that is the same as putting a manual shift gear in 1 , then you come back its in 6gear, so you need to put it in 1 before driving again. it simply make no sense at all. and regen is always set for level 3, why have they even made the "adaptive" regen function then they not using this as default.. so wired again, and so poor design. then i Stop the car from a drive in "ECO" mode, it should power on in "ECO" mode to. there was a reason why I did that in first place.. MG4 damn you.

But apart from that, you love it. ??

I've had my Xpower for a couple of months and 1400 miles now, so I thought I'd give my tuppence-worth.

Firstly, the aforementioned pet peeves. I don't recognise any low power when the battery is cold (or ever). I took a friend out on Saturday from cold, drove less than a mile, stopped, and launched. The g-force hurt my eyes! However, I've noticed it doesn't always give that little 'launch-control nudge'.

The windows did used to mist up, but now I keep the fan on constantly about 1/3 speed, and that solved that.

Squeaky brakes: yes, even after 1400 miles. That said I always use (and really like) one pedal driving, so the brakes don't get much of a work out.

NB Wouldn't it be nice if you could use the configurable button on the steering wheel to scroll through the regen options INCLUDING one pedal driving? I have a routine when I get in the car: scroll to ECO (configurable steering wheel button), disable lane keeping assist, activate one pedal driving, activate wi-fi hotspot (via the short cut). Anything to make that easier would be welcomed.

Secondly, issues. I've only encountered one actual issue, and I'd be interested if anyone else has it. The wireless charging pad only connects with the phone intermittently. Not really for long enough to be of use. Does anyone else have this issue? It's too petty to take it back under warranty.

Hello there, I'm an only 4week owner of a MG4 Xpower, I have lot of things that are a problem.......

I think you would find a lot of these "problems" will also be present on many new cars now, they are not all MG specific problems. With so many driver profiles available on modern cars these days all my recent new cars (and hire cars on holidays) have defaulted to a standard setup at startup. They also all have to default to having all safety features turned on at startup to comply with EU rules?‍♂️

In fact I think all new EU cars for 2024 will also have to "bong" audibly everytime you exceed the speed limit .... so another thing to turn off at the start of every trip !!

Not a peeve, but I hadn’t noticed before until I took delivery, that the panels behind the rear doors are actually black plastic and not tinted glass. I actually think they look ok, apart from the fact they will scratch easily.

Yes m8!
You have only got to look at them and they will scratch!?
Particularly obvious in bright sunlight.

I've managed to "hide" most of the spiderweb scratches with Autoglym Super Resin Polish?
(Other brands and techniques also available)?

True I was recommended this product by the detailer I use, worked well on the black roofs of the Minis. Will be giving it a try, when I clean it.

Stjarnagloss Glasyr
A gift from the gods, a deep rich glaze and protective layer that will rival any modern sealant in-one.
Stjarnagloss Glasyr x 1
Glasyr = Glacier = Rock hard, very slippery and as clear as glass.

This buttery soft finishing glaze is easy to apply with a microfibre pad (something like the Gnugga). By filling deep scratches it will visually improve marring and swirls by up to 90%. Whilst this isn't a permanent fix for paint defects, it is going to improve the overall gloss dramatically. The added benefit is that this uses the same sealant technology as found in Pärla, so it is going to leave behind a long lasting hydrophobic coating for incredible water behaviour and drying capabilities. Forget hype and buzzwords like ceramic infused', this protects the panel and adds a truck load of gloss without the need to baffle with pseudo-science. Simple as that. Expect 4 months from Glasyr and be sure to decontaminate before application. = Glacier = Rock hard, very slippery and as clear as glass.

think the roof is a black vinyl wrap too !
Im not sure myself looks a hard finish, if it is, it looks to be a good one.

Definitely a wrap m8.
Pop open the hatch, then look into the gap at the top.
You will see the edge of the wrap.

Polishes up lovely and I've not noticed any scratches or defects on mine.
