Hi
I have a new MG5 trophy - 2022 plate. The passenger side fron door sometimes dose not open from the inside. The handle moves it just does not open the door and sometimes it takes 2-5 attempts. It always opens from the outside
Anyone else have this issue or have a solution?

This is a known issue reported in a few threads here and FB.
Happens to passenger rear and front doors. It behaves like there is a child lock on.
My rear is doing this.

Call the dealer you will most likely not be the first person to call them and it should get done under warrantee.

I haven't got my MG yet, but I've seen a couple of videos where they say that if central locking has been engaged, then you need to pull the handle twice to open the door. I've had this on previous cars too

Yeah you do need to pull twice if locked. But in my case you can pull until the cows come home and it will not open :)

There are loads of reports of the issue and MG are fixing them under warranty which is good to know.

A lot of recent reports of this very same problem on the ZS EV facelift models.
Most are passengers side front door, but others have experienced problems opening the rear door ( s ) from the inside also.
Not rear child lock, but a problem in the locking mechanism itself.
The fix is to install a complete new locking assembly.
My bother had this on his ZS EV on the N/S/F door on collection day.
It was rectified in about five days ( awaiting the replacement lock ).
Two week letter he discovered that the N/S/R door will not open from the inside either !.
Another new lock is on order.
MG are conversant with the problem, but you will need two visits to get it sorted !.
One visit for them to diagnose the problem, then another visit to have the lock replaced.
MG will not allow the dealer to order a lock until they have followed this process.
Same every single time for all issues !.

Good morning all,

I did have collected on 11th of January my MG5 Trophy Long range, at the time of collection all of the doors did have worked properly, on the very next day both of the doors on the passenger side did stop opening from inside.
So far one visit to the garage in order to provide quick fix end unsuccessful. On this Monday coming 6th of February I am going to drop the car for full day so they can find defect part/s and asked the manufacturer for advice. Highly likely will need one more visit after that.
Not ideal for brand new car but will get sorted eventually!

Me too! Both the front and rear nearside doors do this. I think its to do with the latching mechanism, the auto locking above x mph and the rear one seems to clear if you flick the kiddy lock lever on the shut edge, off then on again. But after driving they both become unresponsive. The N/S front will usually open after several attempts especially if one presses down firmly on the far end from the pivot, whilst pulling the lever out. I've only done 500 miles so far but this fault was apparent almost from delivery. I'll ring the dealer tomorrow.

It’s a common problem.

Good evening all,
I did have drop my car for door fixing, the reported problem was the connection between the door opening mechanism and the handle inside. Now waiting for the spare parts to arrive.
The problem will be sorted by the end of the week according the garage.

Interested to know what parts are as I have an mg5 with 2 doors that occasionally do not open

On our MG5 (Sept 23), you have to let the door handle 'twang back' (pull and then let go of it, the door will then open on the next pull. 1005 consistent.
This is true. I find it really annoying lol
There is also a known issue with the FL passenger doors. I had to have both mine replaced 2 weeks after getting the car.

Hi there,

I had my MG5 delivered on Tuesday and just discovered we have exactly the same problem with our brand new car. Your 'fix' has worked though, so thanks very much for sharing :) I have still contacted the lease company though to see what can be done in terms of replacing the mechanism.

It may be "annoying" but I very much doubt it would be regarded as needing a replacement.

Before I bought my MG5, where the double-pull is required, I had an MG6, its door mechanism worked in exactly the same way. My wife's MG3 behaves the same so I suspect it is standard practice for MG.

Ah thanks for this, I am completely new to MGs. So is the door not broken then? Is this how you’re meant to open it?

Try unlocking all the doors with the button on the drivers door, I assume it's still there on the facelift, or turn off the car and then pull the handle to open the door.
