My MG5 has two keys, but only one has the key blade. I assumed the other one had dropped out without me noticing. I had the car in for a service last week and asked them to order a spare. This seems to be a convoluted process but what surprised me was that the dealer said the cars only come with one blade.
Can anyone confirm that? Does everyone only get one blade?
When I got my car (Facelift, used but only 4k miles) the pack had a tie-wrap with a long number. I presumed that this was the key number and took it with me to the dealer. He said it wasn't the key number - apparently, MG don't have key numbers. The dealer requests a key blade from MG, citing the VIN, and they get one cut by Bolton Locks(?) But when I did a search for Bolton Locks, it came up with a family business which operates out of what looks like a timber workshop. It's doubtful that MG would source their key blades from there - the Bolton Locks web site says it gets their keys from the manufacturer, which makes it an infinite loop:
"All locks are sourced direct from the manufacturers or from one of their authorised distributors to ensure that the highest levels of quality and reliability are maintained."
Again, can I ask if anyone has had to order a spare blade, and did they get the same story from their dealer?
It just doesn't sound right but, if it's not correct, I don't understand why this dealer would be fobbing me off with nonsense?
