Dear Mr Burrows
With regards to this issue. I have been in contact with the manufacturer, who have now reported back and demonstrated to me that following DVSA’s enquiries, they have carried out extensive testing to confirm that the MG EV roof bars can indeed carry a capacity of 35kg.
Subject to approval from the Vehicle Certification Agency, the manufacturer has proposed a timetable of actions that includes informing current vehicle owners of the roof bar capacity and providing them with updated vehicle handbooks. All new owners will be informed of the capacity at the time of purchase, and all media will be updated to reflect the 35kg load capacity.
I trust this brings your enquiries to a satisfactory conclusion.

Hi Alun yes it will I have written back and made a response to the latest DVSA mail, to ask how much time the Vehicle Certification Agency are going to take now so not quite done yet it getting there Im sure they must be sick to the back teeth of me.Thanks Les for getting this information, would be good to see if anyone on here will be getting letters soon from the dealers.
That’ll probably be a 3 star as it looks like you need all the gadge these days to get a 5. IMO they distract the driver as I once had a Qashqai with lane departure warning and collision warning I used to turn off as the damn thing used to bing all the time and distract me.Just the NCAP rating to sort out now.![]()
Alun 2.3 x2 =4.6 still 30kg to go but just read you own post #329 and wait a whileJust weighed my Thule wing bar and it’s 2.3kg.![]()
Each bar or both, was planning on doing mine at the weekend.Just weighed my Thule wing bar and it’s 2.3kg.![]()

Suspect your e-bike will weigh a fair bit ~20Kg, so I'd suggest checking the weight limit of any rack that you intend to use (THULE ProRIde have a 20Kg limit) + need to also consider a) the total system weight - bars, rack + bike, b) how strong you feel in lifting a (heavy) bike up on to the roof / rack....This is very good news. So is there a particular bar you need to get for a bike or do any universal ones fit? I'd like one for my Trek e bike that weighs a fair bit.
Not sure people lift them up onto the roof though as I can barely reach it to clean nevermore lifting a heavy bike.
