MG5 Washer Jets Freezing

Something to watch out for is the pipe going to the rear washer. I had to take the boot trim off and reattach it this afternoon because the nozzle froze and the pressure buildup blew the pipe off when I was trying to use it. It’s very soft, stretchy rubber so doesn’t hold onto the fittings very well.
More important is the joint behind the right hand windscreen pillar trim. Mine popped off and soaked the body control module plus immobiliser module. It couldn't be driven and took the dealer two weeks (of which they worked on it for 7 days) until I got it back. Securing the pipes to the connector is literally a five minute job and I would have saved a lot of aggro & inconvenience!

I had this happen to me last winter, wasn’t sure what was going on, looked a few places online managed to get it fixed myself, it’s a bit of a fiddly job, but actually quite easy in the end. I’m using pure screen wash from now on as soon as it gets in the least bit chilly!

There has been a flurry of posts related to this. I had the same kind of issue in December. The problem seems to be that the nozzle in the wiper arm freezes and a joint in the rear screen wash tube behind the driver side (right hand side) screen pillar pops off. Most people get away with just refitting the pipe but in my case the fluid got nto the electronics and it was fixed under warranty.

Basically, it's a case of drying out the components (body control module plus immobiliser) and refitting the pipe, securing it with cable ties. In my case, the pipe came off again and I've now fitted spring clips.

See these posts - both myself and another user have posted 'how to' with photos.

Rear screen washer failure.

MG5 won't turn off

Hope you get going soon. The comfort is that many owners have had the job done under warranty.
