Hi all, I’m new to EV’s, MG and this forum… we picked up our 2022 ZS EV LR last week and whilst waiting for the wall box to be fitted thought I’d take it to a CCS charger to check it works/I could work out how to use it!

I arrived at 53% SOC and plugged into a 150kw CCS charger, I only topped up to 80% but was surprised to see it only hit 49kw max charging rate. It wasn’t a particularly cold day… about 12 degrees C. I was expecting it to charge at (or at least close to the max) which I believe is around 94kw.

Just wondered what max charging rate others are seeing?

Btw - really really happy with car, it’s exceeded our expectations so far and so much nicer and more relaxing to driver than an ICE!

53% is not particularly low was it a long drive there you say it's not that cold out but for faster speed battery needs to be around 25c you could always try battery heater next time on drive to charger
Lots of reports of over 80kw

Great thanks will try the battery heater next time. No the charger was on my route anyway, but next time I’ll wait until the battery is at a lower level of charge.

Sorry missed your point about a long drive to the charger… no had only done about 10 miles to get there.

OK the longer the drive the more likely to have warmer batterys helps with speed

Sometimes the charger is the limitation, the best I've hit is 92KW, so the car is certainly capable, but I've also been charging on a 150KW charger and only hit 50KW. If you look at the comments on Zap-Map, you'll soon get a picture of which chargers limit max rate

I too have a new LR ZS EV and was told my the MG dealer the max charge is 51KW and that technically shouldn’t use the higher speed chargers. We didn’t know this and I got 69 KW out of gridserve 150kw close to Heathrow airport on the M4.

Max is 95kW, which I've seen (once). Dealer is talking crap. DC charge speed is a negotiation between charger and car. There's no reason to avoid ultra-rapids, other than their higher cost.

Max charge rate is totally dependant on the supply to the charging station and the number of vehicles charging at any one time. It is also a maximum charge rate not a guaranteed charge rate.
