I like to think of it that way: Toyota and Honda hybrids, works mainly on internal combustion engine and electric one is for helping with acceleration, whilst MG3 hybrid works mainly on electric, so electric engine does most work of acceleration, driving, and ICE just helps it go when more power is needed, and also charges the battery simultaneously.

If it turns out to be true, I think it's like the latest Mazda hybrids. The combustion engine is only an auxiliary and an aid to the electric motor and therefore the electric motor is the main means of moving the MG3

I suspect the ambient temperature has something to do with how soon the engine starts, and if you have cabin heat on, say trying to heat the interior. The car uses a conventional heater system and therefore the engine needs to run to start that heating system. There is an AC compressor to cool the interior, but heating will require water jacket hear.

Are there any user testimonials? It's true that the first MG3 only left the factory recently, so few owners have tested it in winter.

I have a feeling ambient temperature will also play a part in the equation, as I notice on cooler mornings the switch over to combustion engine can be very quick.

Hi Aitch1, I have had a similar experience to you with start-ups on cooler mornings. I imagine the ECU works of a set of parameters that includes ambient temperature. As the days get shorter, the use of lights and demisters the night before will impact the charge available to the auxiliary battery and the high voltage battery may well prioritise charging it up prior to switching to EV mode. Although I'm not a techy, so I could be completely wrong.
