Hello everyone. I am torn in between new MG3+ hybrid and Renault Clio hybrid in Alpine trim. Any pointers or advice would be much appreciated.

Hello,

On the whole, I'm not a fan of the Renault brand.
In the past I've had Renault cars and they've all had reliability problems.
I would say that their finish leaves a lot to be desired.
After only 2 years, at the end of their ridiculously short warranty, the problems start.
Renault has a very extensive network in France, which is its strength, but they still lag behind when it comes to the quality of their cars. Not to mention the French magazines which, out of chauvinism and financial interests, support the brand.

My judgement is both personal and a reflection of the feelings of many people around me who shun the brand.

My Renaults were all diesel, a Clio van and a Modus then three Kangoo combos in succession. All were excellent and I only left when Renault stopped producing the combo style. After a disastrous 8 days with a mercedes (which totally soured that brand and it’s dealers for me for ever), I was turned to Citroen for a diesel C3 for my wife and two Berlingo Multispace combos in succession for work, Both were fabulous 8 speed automatic / manual diesels and were superb.
If Renault had kept producing the combo style I’d probably have stayed with them. Strangely they later began producing them under the mercedes brand but let’s not go there eh ?

I believe these rumours are true about the Renault Clio gearbox.

French article about the Renault e-tech Gearbox issues
Yes, even the French magazines, which never cease to support the French vehicles that advertise intensively in their pages, concede that the Renault gearboxes, especially those with dog clutches, have a few problems... And that's not to mention the driving pleasure they provide
