I had a second test drive this morning, hoping to collect a Monument Silver Trophy spec MG3 Hybrid+ next week. Below are some images of the Silver MG3.
Congrats ? have only seen a white and blue so far at dealers. Have not seen a silver, hampstead grey or black.I had a second test drive this morning, hoping to collect a Monument Silver Trophy spec MG3 Hybrid+ next week. Below are some images of the Silver MG3.
Have just got one of these being the offical version , now waiting for the carHaving driven a couple of hundred miles in my car, I remain surprised at its efficiency.
Whilst from cold, when of course the petrol engine is running the whole time, according to the trip computer it's like any normal non hybrid car with mpg starting in the low twenties, within a short distance there is usually enough energy in the battery to switch to EV mode. This allows for shown mpg to move up into the thirties or forties. On one journey it peaked at over 70mpg!
The current overall shown average is around 55mpg, and when compared to my previous car, a 2018 3 cylinder turbo 1.2 auto DS3, that would average if lucky in the mid thirties.
For a self charge hybrid, the battery size is actually quite good, and it will allow for short periods of EV only driving, but more importantly, and as has been mentioned before this system allows for the petrol engine to run at idle speed to purely charge the battery, which I think goes a long way to produce the impressive economy figures.
Elsewhere I continue to be amazed at the level of specification for the price. With just a couple of examples- Auto high beam headlights, and auto air recirculation amongst the many standard features.
Although, and I think this is common across all the MG range, if you want to listen to music content on your phone, there is no Bluetooth connectivity, with the only access being through Carplay or Android auto. So plugging your phone into the car, and remembering to unplug to take it with you is necessary. However I am getting a Wireless Carplay adapter which will alleviate this issue.
Fantastic deal!! For my other car I have a Carlikit AI box, and whilst you do get the occasional glitch which is common to all these devices, for the last 18 months I've been pleased with how it works.Have just got one of these being the offical version , now waiting for the car

Our neighbours daughter pulled up in one last week.Having driven a couple of hundred miles in my car, I remain surprised at its efficiency.

Hi can l ask of you are happy with the wireless adapter you got off Amazon , l just want to check it works ok with the MG3 before l purchase one.Fantastic deal!! The 'AI box' side of things actually turns your infotainment screen into a tablet. So you can watch things like YouTube BBC iPlayer Netflix (if you pay for the subscription) etc. With some AI Boxes you can even connect games controllers!
Whilst of course not legal, because these are after market devices they will show moving images whilst the car is travelling, but as I say that's both illegal and dangerous, however as my other car is an EV, you can use it whilst at a charge point.
One other thing, in order for it operate at its best you really need to insert and pay for a separate SIM Card.
For my MG3 I've gone with a caurko wireless adapter.

Clearly you've got the better deal, at nearly half the price!
In my MG4 I can connect the phone to the car by Bluetooth only, and can play music from it via Bluetooth by selecting the relevant audio input. So maybe it's an MG3 only thing? (Or maybe you've not found the relevant input). ?Having driven a couple of hundred miles in my car, I remain surprised at its efficiency.

Also have a silver to pickup from Swindon near the end of the month. Originally had a white on order but none apparently available arriving in the UK until AugustJust collected my monument silver MG3 Hybrid today! Loved the smooth ride home. Drivers seat very comfortable. Anyone in N.ireland interested in this new MG3 go along to Greg Mitchell Motors in Strabane. The service was first class from initial enquiry to both my test drives and handover today. Jonny in sales was extremely knowledgeable about the MG3,friendly and very professional. I must have asked him 100 questions! Aidan based in the workshop was also very helpful. Still got a big smile on my face.
On the whole these devices work well, but from time to time, usually something in the Bluetooth connection between the phone and adapter, you may find you get the odd glitch.Hi can l ask of you are happy with the wireless adapter you got off Amazon , l just want to check it works ok with the MG3 before l purchase one.
Thanks for your reply Keith , very detailed and reassuring. Think l will be sending for one from Amazon soon , got to wait till end of June to get my MG , so frustrating lol. Thanks again ?On the whole these devices work well, but from time to time, usually something in the Bluetooth connection between the phone and adapter, you may find you get the odd glitch.
Lately and inexplicably my iPhone 12 will connect fine to the devices in both my cars (and it can't be the adapter as they are completely different makes and models), but when you select 'play' for a track the display will show the track as playing, but there will be no sound. The workaround is to switch off the Bluetooth on the phone and then a second later switch it back on again, then all is fine. This usually happens if the car has been left for only a short while, and the adapter seemingly hasn't booted up from 'cold'.
Other times the adapter's will seemingly 'freeze' when booting up. Again something attributable to both devices I have.
However don't be put off, 98% of the time they will work flawlessly, and these occasional glitches are overwhelmingly outweighed by the benefits of not plugging and unplugging your phone from the car.
Finally the first glitch I mentioned, had completely disappeared when driving the car today, and like with any electronic devices they are occasionally prone to odd behaviour occasionally.
As I mentioned previously the Carlinkit AI box which I use in my Genesis Electrified G80, whilst more pricey does add a whole range of features, turning the screen in your car into essentially a Tablet, with all the features to watch TV etc. I would add though to get the most out of that side of things its best to use a separate data SIM card, which does of course add to the cost.
A simple adapter like the one in my MG is just for CarPlay, and there are plenty that will be compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The safest way to buy these devices if your concerned about reliability is from Amazon. There products usually have a no quibble return policy.
Interesting, I will have another look.In my MG4 I can connect the phone to the car by Bluetooth only, and can play music from it via Bluetooth by selecting the relevant audio input. So maybe it's an MG3 only thing? (Or maybe you've not found the relevant input). ?![]()
I picked up my shiny new "Dynamic Red" MG3 in Trophy Spec on Sunday, already put about 100 miles on it, mostly on daily commuting. I have a 10 mile commute each way every day, through the South Wales Valleys and it's been brilliant. I'm averaging a consistent 60MPG, which i'm very pleased with.
The car spends plenty of its time in EV mode, if it has sufficient charge then under 30MPH the car basically lives in EV mode. Over 30, it's a flip of a coin if the engine will kick in or not.
When you put your foot down the car will rocket off. I'm still very much getting used to this, it's very unusual to me. I keep my Regen braking on max (Irritatingly it resets on each restart of the car, so you'll need to set this every time you get in, but I mapped it to a steering wheel button) and it regens very aggressively when you let off the accelerator but does a fantastic job of pumping charge into the battery. I've seen as high as 40kW going back into the battery, but that was from 70MPH. From 30mph, usually about 20-25kW goes back into the battery for a few seconds, but rapidly fades off. Once under 10MPH regen is almost nothing and you have to get on the brakes proper - No one-pedal driving here.
I moved to this from an MG HS (Petrol, not PHEV) and although it's a bit unusual getting used to a much smaller car, I am enjoying it. The HS was always too big for what I needed.
I use Android Auto on the head unit, with the AAWireless dongle for wireless connectivity (If anyone cares, setting the AAWireless dongle to 190 gets you the nice wide display and plenty of map room).
The USB C port on the center console, next to the AA port appears to have been made wrong, or is just badly implemented. My phone gives me an error when I plug it in there, luckily I bought a low profile USB PD adapter for the 12V socket which works great. I still need to try some other cables, and see if that's perhaps the issue.
The head unit is great, works well. Vast improvement over the HS's buggy piece of crap. My main irritation with the car are twofold.
Firstly, there's a weird bump in the front seats, which is not very comfortable. You can adjust your butt to where it's less of an issue, but if you move again then you fall back onto it. I'm a skinny guy, but if someone was more well endowed in the rear, then perhaps they'd find it comfier. Until then, i'm Princess-and-the-pea'ing it. This isn't enough for me to write off the car, as you can work around it fairly easily, but it is irritating.
Secondly, I hate the "corner 360 camera" feature. When you are going slow (under 15mph) and indicate, the car automatically turns on the 360 camera to "help guide you". This is incredibly annoying, because stuff like leaving a car park is very slow and requires lots of indicating as you come out of the space, leave the aisle, leave the car park, rejoin the main road. And every time it does it, it causes the entire screen to flash and it keeps screwing up Android Auto. I've stopped indicating nearly as much to try and avoid it.
I do actually really like the car, but i've only had it for about 72 hours, so i'm firmly still in the "honeymoon period" - In a month or so I think i'll be able to give a slightly more measured review.
I have one in white and all I can say is F A N T A S T I C. Quiet, smooth, zippy and amazing to drive.Like to know your thoughts on the new MG 3 Hybrid+ which i believe can be ordered now or in next few weeks.
Specs look great as does fuel economy. Think MG might be onto a winner with this new MG3. Hoping to get a test drive in 10 days time.
are you sure it's not an issue with the AAWireless dongle you have ?
I ordered the carlink airplay 5.0 mentioned earlier in this thread New MG3 Hybrid+ which is what was recommended to avoid these issues
Hi nam, I'm holding out for a white one, I figured I'd have to wait a while for any of the colours, so I'm sticking with our first choice. Also have a silver to pickup from Swindon near the end of the month. Originally had a white on order but none apparently available arriving in the UK until August
