New MG4 coming?

Autocar running with it says it will arrive this summer in the UK.

Funnily enough. On those Autocar pictures. It doesn't look quite as bad. Still not a looker, but almost acceptable. And apparently a lot lighter. So the X Power version, should be even better. Hopefully the software is very much improved. And all the "characteristics" ironed out. If that's the case, would be a decent car.
🙂👍

I agree it looks better in those pictures, I don't think the colour does it any favours to be fair. It is very much a generic looking hatchback now.
A nice body kit for the x power may make it look even better

Charging port moved to front right , so when public charging you cannot compare the two versions when side by side , and a bit of a bugger for for existing MG4 owners who optimized the positions of their own EVSE boxes to suit rear right. And where have they lost all that weight?

I get the impression from the reactions here that people were a bit shocked but now coming around slightly.

It seems that it will be more practical in many ways, which fits in with the MO of the other MG cars (apart from the cyberster).

The current car has a lot of plastic on it to make it look more sporty (e.g. the tail). That might not age well, whereas this car has more metal on display.

I find that the angular shape of the existing car makes it get very dirty, so that will be another bonus of the new one.

It isn't a huge departure so it won't make ours look too old or anything.

I won't be rushing to get one but if ours got written off I would consider this as a replacement, alongside things like a Cupra Born.

It’s an unusual business model (not saying it’s a bad one, just unusual) completely replacing a model within 3 years, especially when it has sold well.
Maybe it’s to appeal to a different demographic, as I imagine most MG buyers will be new to the brand.
It also follows the more rounded Merc EQA/BYD/Kia Lexus UX body style by the look of it.
If I hadn’t looked at the dimensions I would have assumed it to be a smaller EV to compete with the likes of the Hyundai Inster or Dacia Spring.
I guess it’s not great news for us MG4 owners when we look to trade in, I assumed the MG4 would run for another 4-5 years with maybe a minor facelift 2 years from now…
A current. P.C.P.. Is now looking inviting on a new MG4..for anyone taking one out on a new car.

The weight is probably saved from new motor and battery tech, it will have come on leaps and bounds in the last 2.5 years since the original was launched.

Must say less than 3 years for a brand new car is a short lived lifespan.

To be fair it isn't a bugger for existing owners because this car isn't a free upgrade. It is an entirely different car for which I would have to trade in or sell my existing car and buy this one. And in doing so there's no particular reason for me to choose the MG4 rather than any other model that suits my needs and budget.

The charge port in the pictures is front left; so I would have to move my chargepoint back to where it was for my Ioniq.

7 years is more normal for before a complete refresh but a facelift is not unusual after 3-4 years. Hard to say which cateogory this falls into until we get better details and pictures.

The tail lights look cyberster-esce to me, but the rest of the rear reminds me of the Mitsubishi Mirage (not a compliment). The front is clearly related to the latest MG3, I don’t mind the flow of the bonnet but I think it’s a bit of a miss on the smaller “vents”.

er, not sure about this . On first look I prefer the current model's styling. But i'll reserve judgement till I see it in the flesh . My PCP ends October '26 so timing should be right to allow MG to iron out any wrinkles . Having said that I really like the look of the ES5. And there's now so much more choice than there was when I bought my 4

Auto Express and Autocar have now picked up on this story

Charging port may flip with the steering wheel when it comes here.

Actually, the moved charging port would work in my favour, as my home EVSE was installed to suit a Renault Zoe, and I have to park nose-in so I can open the driver's door (because walls).
As to the reduced weight, battery chemistry maybe? More kWh for less kg?
EDIT - More likely due to a smaller battery option for China that we don't get here.

I just realised what it looks like to me - a GWM Ora 3 (Ora Cat). From the front quarter view anyway.

How did I pass my driving test ? don't know my left and right! 🤪

I don't hate it, definitely doesn't look anywhere near as good as the current MG4 IMO. But it's fine. By the time my PCP is up I doubt I'd look at another MG4 anyway.
Yes it is more of a question of if I was buying today having not had an MG4 would I buy that. And yes quite possibly if the price and spec was right.

But would I buy another MG4 at the end of my PCP in 2028? Who can say, I am hoping there would be more choice on the market.
