Hi Everybody, I am a brand new MG4 owner (and first time EV owner). Love the car so far apart from the Lane Keep Assist and having to turn it off all the time. Thanks for all the previous threads and the tips and advice in them, interesting to read.
I wanted an MG in the Metro/Maestro/Montego years but never got round to getting one. Should I even admit that? But I guess it shows my age. But very happy to have an electric MG now.
I wonder if MG Motor will ever give us the option to turn the lane keep assist thingy off once and for all?

Welcome to the forum. My first car was a Maestro (not the MG version though) Loved the car at the time, and had all sorts of adventures in it. Now in a MG4 and loving it. The LKA doesn't bother me anymore as I have got into the routine of turning it off everytime.

It has to default to in for the Euro NCAP ratting so no chance of it changing.

Enjoy your new car and welcome.
Thanks. It is a shame if it is locked in by Euro NCAP as there seems to be a good case that LKA is not really helpful on UK roads and actually a negative.

Welcome mate, you might find LKA isn't so bad for you after driving the car for a while, a lot of people here never bother turning it off. Software updates have made the system a lot better, and hopefully this trend continues in the future.
Thanks for that. I will give it another go sometime, hopefully it will continue to improve…

Thanks. I had a Metro and Montego at different times, also not MG versions. They were better cars than some people gave them credit for and I have happy memories of them too. Thanks for your point about the routine of turning the LKA off, I guess it is something I’ll get used to, too. I’d still like the option to do it once though.

🙂👍

Welcome, is it a brand new MG4 (there has been a lot of great deals to be had) or used?

Why do we need it if we are not in common market.
Because even though Euro NCAP is backed by the EU, its actually independent and is also backed (and was originally created by) the UK government.

I have had my 4 for 14 months and love everything about it in time you will accept all the tunes , twitches and modern day computer stuff as everyday driving.

I guess technically we don’t but some buyers are still going to judge a car by how many stars it gets. In general it is no bad thing that car safety is evaluated by somebody independent but it seems the tail is wagging the dog a bit with this. Tech for the sake of tech rather than considering it in the light of real world driving conditions on our potholed, narrow and bendy roads.

Thanks Ozz, I’m already starting to 👍

Hello @Tid, welcome to MGEVs. (y)

Hi welcome, l to wish that it could happen, as well as a one pedal and front collision as can catch you out, be aware, but l love it

The thing with LKA is it only kicks in at speeds over 40mph so if your trip is around town or in an area where you will always be below that speed you don't have to deactivate it. Otherwise in my car it is always turned off.

Nothing wrong with wanting an old MG or "newish" MG way back then.

I had the 37th MG Midget of the Rubber Bumper kind off the production line. Having checked a few weeks back the car still has a current MOT and Tax so impressed it's still going after 50 years.

Then I got a 1979 blue MG Midget in 2001 with the intention of rebuilding it, it came in boxes and I got most of it rebuilt but health issues got in the way and I could no longer sit in it (way to bad for the old spine!!) so sold it on and that is still got a current tax and MOT

Now it a red Trophy that is great (and warmer!!!) than a draughty Midget

it’s great to hear so many people loving their 4. I seem to have bought lemon 4 weeks ago and MG are currently engaged in trying to make it work properly. Your positive comments give me hope that one day I might love this albatross.
The handling and drive seem good but all my auxiliary functions randomly turn themselves off and only rarely turn themselves back on (speed recognition, collision avoidance, lane assist, adaptive cruise control, radio etc). Makes every drive a magical mystery tour!

What age ??? ... see my icon for my 2nd and third cars/MGs <<<<< . The TA was 25 y/o in 1964 and the Mk1 Midget 5 y/o in 1966 (I think). I'm now approaching my 20th (or any calculated alternative age?) b/d with my one-year-old MG4 EV ... yeah? Ho, ho, ho !!!
