So, I've searched and read so many threads about the MG4 but still have a few questions remaining - apologies if I've missed in the depths where these have already been discussed. Appreciate any feedback on these remaining questions...

1) Does the steering wheel vibration apply to all MG4's or just the xpower version?
2) Was the differential oil-leak issue only a problem for the first edition models?
3) Ditto for the undertray warping issue?
4) I got the impression that the aggressive LKA and AEB problems fixed with a software update (R59). But elsewhere I read about better cameras with the second edition models that helped - is there a definitive answer to what fixes those problems?

Mostly trying to get my head round whether it'd be better to go for the second edition model. Thanks.

1. Just the X-Power.
2. Yes. My car is 19 months old and it never had the leak.
3. The undertrays are all a bit crappy but there is a fix which is more or less OK. If you get an MG4 try to make them fit the strengthening bar before delivery.
4. Many people, including me, have never had any problem with the AEB. Opinions vary as regards the LKA. Some people say it's fine, others say it's the feature from hell. Different settings/software? Different tolerances/expectations? I just turn it off. Don't need two people trying to steer the car.

Do you like a car with a rear wash/wipe

Then 2nd edition is for you as that is one of the main differences

Have a 23 reg, so a little before the update.

I was a bit concerned about not having a rear wiper having had one on previous cars. But haven't been troubled by it so far.

Haven't had any of the other issues, but there is a fix for the bulging undertray.

Leave LKA on, keeps you on your toes because you don't know when it will try to put in a hedge.

Good idea - is it possible to see if one has already been fitted, or would the dealer have a history of what is done if I get one from an MG dealer? I was thinking along similar lines of ensuring it has R59 software too, but if purchased from a non-franchised dealer then, presumably MG would charge to have R59 installed?

Absolutely - IMHO all these driver "aids" just stop people thinking about driving.

Probably useful for reversing. I was thinking that not having a central headrest would be off putting for the rare occasions that I have a 5th person it the car.

🤣 We have many country roads around here... it's hard enough avoiding the hedges when tractors speed towards you.

The rear window is so pitiful to begin with I can see why they didn't bother with fitting a wiper in the first place.

It is indeed not that useful and only comes in handy to not have to wipe the dew in the morning if you are really that in need of the added visibility.

And I'm with you with LKA, the car isn't overpowering a driver that is paying attention, it is just the car having intrusive thoughts.
For all we know it might be a true sentient AI suffering from depression for being inside a budget Chinese car. Ok, maybe not full on depressive, it does work correctly most of the time, so only bipolar.

I've got a post-update Trophy as a courtesy car just now. Rear visibility is dire, partly because of the central headrest and partly because of the gangster glass cutting the light in the back. I think the central headrest should stay off unless you actually have three passengers in the back. I've never really felt the need of a rear wiper in my own pre-update SE, unless I'm just driving off when the car has been standing in the rain. Personally, I think the rear wiper looks naff.

You'd have to crawl under the car to see if the undertray fix has been done, but if I can do it, so can you.

The Trophy I have is on R40, and frankly it sucks asteroids. The headlights come on even when the sun's out, the ACC goes in the old, less intuitive, increments, and the HVAC screen keeps vanishing.

Thanks - handy timing with you having the courtesy car to compare the two :) I'd definitely want R59 then too! Edited to add.. odd that the dealer didn't put the latest software on it, they might have tempted you for an upgrade and pay you for the difference in price at the same time ;)

I asked the dealer (Waylands Newbury) to put the latest software on before taking the car off them. Didn't check it though and drove off believing them.

It seems that they didn't - despite saying they had - because I later got an update at the Oxford branch.

Do you have to pay for the update at Oxford, or do the dealers all do it for free?

I think they know very well they're not going to persuade me into a Trophy full time! They're currently buttering me up because I got SO furious with them for not upgrading me to R33 last April. It won't do them any good though.

I didn't have to pay because there I was having some issues, so it got fixed under warranty.

Basically the dealership either wants MG to pay for it (under warranty) and if there is no problem then they will want the customer to pay.

I thought I had requested this as part of the negotiations for the car, but seemingly something went wrong.

It's not the R40 that's causing these issues. My Trophy is on R33 but it it does not have the lights and ACC problem. Obviously the garage has not applied the Service Campaign Updates.

@Eve.

Can I just say, what a breath of fresh air it is to hear how a person (your good self) has made an effort to use the search function and read the threads already available, discussing all the main topics known to man (or woman)

Even after being on here a while (and don't we know it, groaned the crowd)
I always search the terms I am going to use, to see what has been answered or discussed before.

Everything appears to have been answered to your satisfaction up above so I will not add any more.

Except......
Do get a model with a rear wiper and throw the central headrest away.

(y) thanks... a lifetime in engineering - mostly software probably helped.

Having said that I have just been doing a search for "V2L" and I am getting zero results with both the regular and advanced search :(

Have a poke about in this thread
