Nextbase 622 dash cam and mirror housing USB port

Hi,

I've had a simple dash cam fitted for a while powered from the mirror housing USB port. It's been working fine.

Decided to get a better dash cam with higher quality picture, rear camera and GPS etc.

On trying out the newer camera it was ok with just the front camera, but hooking up the rear camera it would power down.

I changed the input power to the supplied cigarette lighter and all is well.

I am assuming that the inbuilt USB port is unable to provide sufficient power. This is a shame as that means a bit more work to install a hardwire kit.

Just wanted to ask if anyone has a nextbase camera system working fine on the inbuilt USB?

You are already installing additional wiring on the full (front+rear) 622 setup so adding a dedicated power supply is no big deal. This is the arrangement I have on my MG5 and it works very well.

I have a Nextbase 522gw with the additional rear cam that plugs into the side, which works fine on the rear view mirror USB socket, and I am happy with the clarity too.

Many thanks for the information. I tried a different USB cable and it works fine on the mirror port.

Makes things easier.
