Noob charging question...

Update 2:

Having had the car for a week, with (apparently) much chat with MG UK, they "believe" the problem is with the main cable from the charging port (presumably back to the HV pack). Hmm.. would they not have checked all the relevent connections through to start with? Can't say I'm convinced, of all the "systems" or components that could fail, a length of copper cable would be surprising. On top of that, I have now been told the cable is on order, but won't arrive before Thurs/Fri. Seriously? I thought MG were based at Longbridge, which can't be more than 50 miles away. Some spotty oik on an NTV650 could prolly do that round trip in under 2 hrs! Heigh-ho, bang goes the tints I had booked.....

Can’t your supplier do the tints at the dealership?

"...Excellent idea, Jones... I was waiting to see who would suggest that..."

:ROFLMAO: .. But yeah, good point....

This was the state of the car software in early deliveries, various software updates have been done since then in response to customers comments. Including charge whilst unlocked and externally timed charging.
Out of interest, is it possible to get the car to report the current software version it's running? Is this reported somewhere in the "settings" or some such on screen?

And remember whatever you do and whatever happens with your car - don’t panic.

Update 3:

As predicted, and now after close to two weeks in the dealers, the fix didn't work (how could it? It's a cable, it was either broken to begin with, or it wasn't, it didn't spontaneously break after they charged it on delivery...)

S-o-o.. Them: "We'll talk to MG.." Me: "You've had it 2 weeks, and neither you nor MG Motors UK can identify the issue. Since, clearly, this car's a rare production-line lemon, under the Consumer Credit Act, 2015 I can reject it as 'not of satisfactory quality' or 'fit for intended purpose', so I want a replacement"....

I'm not taking back a car with a ghost-fault (i.e. one they truly can't track down), so we'll see how this pans out... Shame, really, it's taken the shine off a bit :(...

Good luck Arf - hope you get something sorted out.
Cheers matey.. Thing is they've churned out a shed load of these, and everyone seems happy with them, so I suspect mines just a rare duffer... It happens, even nowadays, by I aren't paying for it ;)...

It could been worse, it could have been built by British Leyland... The steering wheel prolly would have come off in my hand by now!:ROFLMAO:

It could be worse it could be one of these. The worst car that I have ever owned.

I used to love the old BL cars, they were so easy to work on and maintain, they had to be because you were forever fixing something or other on them.

This is a real shame Arf !.
Given that the car is so young and they have had the car twice as longer as yourself, they should get you into another car ASAP.
I am sure it would not take too long to locate one.
Get you sorted and satisfied should be the urgent priority, THEN worry about fixing the first car !.
Are we taking any bets on what really IS the problem with Arf's first car then folks ?.
I am going for either the charge port itself, or in the worst case, the inverter.
Neither are a massive job in time ( as long as you have the personal trained and are confident enough to carry out the work ).
I think it is likely to be shipped out to dealer with a lot more experience on EV's or it will go back to Long Bridge.
Keep us all informed Arf and good luck with getting the right result.

this sounds like what I had. Granny charger and home chargers wouldn't work. A firmware update at the dealer fixed it.
That would great if it was that quick and simple.
But I guess it begs the question, how is it that both the garage and MG Tech are finding it so hard to find the issue ???.

The rust holes made for easy access too for those hard to reach components....

I'm going for charging port, based on nothing other than good old fashioned gut feel.

Yeah, that's what they thought when it wouldn't charge on the dealer's 22kW charger as well... But... No. They came up with the "err.. it's a cable thang.." which I doubted, as it had initially charged, so I can't see how an internal cable from the port to the battery could spontaneously break, and if it was loose they would have clocked that straight away, I would have thought. Anywho, formally rejected now, so we'll see where they go...

..Hmm, mebbe I should see if I can step up to the "long-range" one as a replacement, depending on the price difference?
