Been singing the MG4s praises since I got the car earlier this year, despite a very strange air ventilation issue I've had very little to complain about with both car and MG in general..

..Until this week.

Tuesday evening I got in the car and to my surprise the main infotainment screen just refused to start up...odd. Okay, no problem, I soft reset it and it turned on and continued my journey without issue.
Wednesday morning - same thing happens, the screen stays black until I reset the system again. Wednesday afternoon the screen comes on as normal - phew - I thought.
Thursday morning to now - screen has remained black on start up every single time, and every time I've had to reset the system to get it going (With one time the screen flashing on and off).

You may have seen my other posts in various threads about how my car was booked in for the recall software update on Friday - great I thought, I can get everything up to date and explain the the vent issue and now the screen issue. Guy I spoke to (assuming it was a manager of some sort) at my local dealer felt very condescending towards the issues I had. Anyway, dropped the car off and expected it to be updated.

Friday afternoon I get a call to say it's ready, I get to the dealer only to be told by the same manager that the screen does not come to life so the update couldn't be done. Now I'm sorry if this seems a bit much to ask - but surely if I know how to reset the system to bring the screen back to life the ACTUAL MG STAFF should know too? Beyond angry about this.

Anyway, to where I am now, car is booked in for a service in a couple of weeks time where hopefully I can get these issues resolved once and for all AND get the long awaited software updates at my cost probably.

Apologies for the text heavy post - needed to "vent" a bit.

Vent away, don't blame you.
MG dealers do seem to be, particularly unhelpful. ?

I could do this (and probably will if the service doesn't fix the issues I'm having). Would be rather annoying though as my local one is only a 5 min drive away.
My nearest dealer is 3mi away from my house but is grossly incompetent and don't care about customers, so I drive 40min to a dealer that actually gives a monkeys about customers

Good Rant!

Here's a text heavy reply....

You're not the first and you won't be the last.
As a rule we are just used to things working as they should, and in the main they do.

I mean, your toaster....
It just works, right?

Turn on your TV, it just works.

Microwave......etc etc, you get the picture.

So another 'appliance' most of us use every day, your car, should just bloody work.
Am I right? (Of course I am!?)

Having now been an owner of an MG product for 1 year, I can wholly concur with you and the frustration felt when things are playing up and the useless dealer experience.

(A change of dealer has now sorted the terrible experience I had first time round)

I've had a couple of things go wrong with my car this year (1 sensor/1 camera) and still things continue to eat away at me and my satisfaction with the ownership experience.

SOS call feature always going wrong (still)
When I'm charging, maybe the car will recognise the charger and charge immediately.
Next time it won't.
Since my update (R59) on some screens the AC shortcut doesn't work.

My cars hotspot no longer has an internet connection and don't get me started on the XPWRZ vibes.
Minimal for me so I count myself lucky but still no official working fix anytime soon it seems.

The car is great to drive, good to look at, practical, cheap to run, goes like a stabbed rat, quiet, clean, relatively efficient considering the performance on offer and on the whole I am very pleased with it.

I just keep getting niggled by issues that really should have all been sorted by SAIC by now?

I wonder how many people on here are on their second MG product?

I know there are folk who won't get another MG once they are out of their current steed.
The sad thing is, I dont think MG really care?
They should care, but I see little evidence if these hallowed pages are anything to go by.

A second MG product for me?

I'm still on the fence........

CAVEAT :
There are probably thousands of happy owners out in the world who do not frequent forums of any sort and have zero complaints.
Probably.

As they have clear evidence that the car is faulty there is no way they can justify charging you to update the car to make it work as it should ie correctly.
When I was talking to the manager, he mentioned the diagnostic test would be free under warranty, but said I'd be charged for the service. So lets see..

Went in for updates, came out with older version. Went back for updates again, still got older version. Went in with a list of issues, came out without any answers and was told they couldn't find any issues. Granted, most of them are intermittent random issues.

I'm sorry to hear that and I share your frustration. Both the vent and screen issues I have are intermittent. The vents seem to work correctly for a week then just stop blowing air for 2-3 weeks.

My new screen issue seems to be a little more permanent but sometimes it does come back to life!

These cars have a mind of their own sometimes.

I truly wish I'd known about this forum before buying the MG3 Hybrid+ I may have declined, it is a nice car and it drives ok, which most seem to agree on but the software seems to be a bit suss, not hearing much about good service either, as mentioned it's an appliance so it should just work, if the mechanicals broke I could see a reason for it and a logical fix but to release a bunch of bad software and dodgy screen from a country that perhaps makes more of these than anywhere else on the planet is derisory.

We've only had it 7 days , not happy that I've been to the dealer 4 times already.

Either your microwave is way more advanced than mine or you're confusing it with the TV.

I'm here all week!

MG make cheap good driving electric cars with decent looks and performance and that are generally well equipped and reasonably well built.

But they do not yet do software well nor do they communicate well and service levels are still poor as their dealers are too small, untrained and not treated well by the parent company.

There's a window of time for them to fix this before they get a bad reputation (with EVs).

I've been watching to see if the software, communications or support issues will change. In the 18 months I've had my MG EV I haven't seen any progress.

So as it stands this will be my first and last - why wouldn't I try other brands when there is increasing choice out there?

I love the car but it needs the garage again with broken footrest, AEB malfunctions, knocking from the hatch latch and the eSOS phone failing again (after previously being fixed). I am getting fed up with it.

There's still time for MG to persuade me, but it is running out.

By trying other brands you may well be jumping out of the frying pan into the fire and paying more for the privilege, better the devil you know and all that. ?
