MG4 XPOWER
Hi all. I've been lurking for a few weeks but finally plucked up the courage to post.

I've recently ordered a Volcano Orange MG4 XPower through workplace EV scheme. Awaiting a date for delivery but should be before Christmas. Very excited to get my hands on it, but I am a little nervous about the power it can produce coming from a 1.4 petrol!

As I am new to the world of EVs and the MG4, what should I know? How have other former ICE owners handled the change to an EV? I know there are a few software issues with the MG4 and the vibration issue on the XPower. Any other issues I should be aware of?

Congratulations!

Just remember that regardless of how much power you have, it will only go as fast as the amount you depress the accelerator.

(Unless you have no feeling in your right leg/foot, you will be fine. 🤣)

Just use the search function with any keywords of your concerns, but have a cup of T ready, as there is a lot to catch up on.

Have you priced up your insurance yet?

The change from ICE to EV is night and day, I’ve not met anyone who would want to go back.
The abundance of power is going to be intoxicating too but as already said, it’s VERY controlled and predictable. No lags, no power band, no vtec shenanigans. Just press and go, lift off to slow/stop.

One pedal driving is lovely and easier to get used to than you might expect. It drives like an overgrown scalextric.

Good colour choice BTW 😉

Hi @MrStrick, up until 3 months ago I was happily driving a boring petrol car, then I started to consider electric, but I honestly didn't dare go for it, so I opted for an MG3 Hybrid as a kind of stepping stone. Well I loved the little MG3, and especially the electric side of it, so after only 3 months I decided to go full EV.

I figured my first step should be to get a home charger, so I looked into it and ordered one, thinking I'd be ready to go EV sometime later. But this lovely Xpower came up for sale close to me, so I had a look at it, loved it, and bought it.

Well I've got to say, it's the best move I ever made (regarding cars), I'm so pleased I made the switch to electric, and there will definitely be no going back for me.

Yes the Xpower has masses of power, and it's great, but you don't need it all the time. The car is perfect for just pottering around, normal driving is so much smoother and easier than it is in a petrol car, no stupid clutch or gears, just press and go, it's actually very relaxing to drive.

So after only 2 weeks of ownership, I'm a big fan of the Xpower, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Congrats on your new X Power and welcome to Team Tango. They are brilliant! You'll probably take a few days to get used to an EV, coming from an ICE car. I've had mine nearly 3 months and bloody love it. I charge mine with the Granny Charger, which suits me fine. You will NEVER EVER get bored of the acceleration. Make sure you have a change of pants, just in case. 🙂👍

Congratulations on your new Xpower 👍

You should be fine with a new one 🤞

Just do a bit of research on here and there are lists on what to check on delivery.

Easy to drive steady and smoothly when you want 🙂

You’ll need to think about home charging if you haven’t already.

Congrats.

I'm probably in the minority who don't charge at home. From me, my advice for long journeys (over 200 miles) would be to under estimate and over charge along the way. If you are stopping after 2 hours and you only need 10 minutes ultra fast charge to get you where you are going, charge for 30 minutes. Grab a coffee or something. An extra 20 minutes is well worth it rather than the stress of getting low. Tesla is the way to go for long journeys, get the app and it will show you which supercharger stations are open to all. They will also be cheapest.

Don't get hung up on low economy at this time of year, it's much higher in the summer.

If you've not found the post.... don't take on anything too spicy if you are under 30% charge, you might get slapped. Any other time anything is fair game!

Not sure if you are coming from rwd or not, but beware planting it on roundabouts in the wet unless you are prepared to handle some tail out action.

Get all the software updated pre-delivery, not just important updates. Software will still do odd things at times.

Even Eco is faster than most traffic. Normal is quick, especially when floored. Launch control is fun. In Sport, it's mind blowing 🤯 Things will likely approach much faster than you're used to.

Yet you can still drive it sensibly, only using its powers for good. 😂😂😂

...or maybe a bit of evil. 😈😈😈

If it has an undertray sag/bulge, get it fixed pre-delivery - a common fault but easily fixed with a brace. May be fixed from factory on the latest builds?

Oh, I should add - ENJOY! 😎
