My daughter was driving the car this morning at 730am when just before joining the motorway the power steering failed with a red alert to take it to a dealership. Called MG Assist(AA) who ran diagnostics and did tyre pressure (there was no alert they needed doing) and it was driveable.
Question is if we drive it again will it happen again, AA won't come out for the same fault under MG Assist and all the South East dealerships can't take it in until 15 July at the earliest. It's a lease car and no one is offering a courtesy car in the meantime!

This car has been doomed from the offset where we thought we were getting a 2022 model instead we received a 2020 model delivered covered in mould and it was apparent that the vehicle/battery had been in storage/field for 14 months before we received it. So to say we aren't surprised its had issues is an understatement. On a daily basis the infoentertainment/Sat Nav freezes and fades until we reset it.

Has anyone experienced the power steering fail and if so did it happen again? My daughter has to get to work somehow! many thanks

As there isn't a 2020 model MG4 I assume you have posted this in the wrong forum?

Have you spoken to your lease company? If you tell them the situation, they may be able to assist you.

Oops sorry meant 2022 model was received (Trophy LR) but it was sat for 14 months offsite but was expecting the 2024 model. Sadly the model year was missing from most of the paperwork.

Yes have spoken to them several times. They aren't offering any solution - they tried the dealerships also and there is just no availability soon. Two both had availability in mid August!

I've had that fault come up when I'd just got in the car, got out locked it, waited a minute or so got in and waited for the system to completely initialise before touch the brake pedal and it had cleared. I think there are a few reports of this type of problem on the forum, I think they are a software bug.

Thanks that’s interesting. Am not surprised it’s a software bug as it has been very buggy from day 1 wanting us to change tyre pressure on daily basis! The display often freezes and fades and have to reset too.

Wouldn’t be so worried if that happened whilst stationary but can’t have it happen to my young daughter on a busy commute. Was very scary this morning.

If you have that many faults, get a software update asap. As an indication: what version are you on?

When I ordered in 2022 there was a 4 month waiting list so I doubt it was parked in a field
We found the paperwork in the glovebox stamped for Feb 22 and we got the car April 24. No wonder when there were delays with the paperwork the car was still available! They said the cars are stored offsite and with the amount of mould over the window seals and door trims despite a pre delivery valet they admitted it had been offsite and have offered £70 to get it valet cleaned after initial £30! The concern though is with the battery being left that long- wondering if that has any repurcussions?

Can you (threaten to) reject the car? If nothing else, it might make them speed up the repair.
Sadly had tried to do that and the early termination fee was several thousand. Raised a complaint too but apart from £70 for a valet they have refused that I was missold. I am taking it to Financial Ombudsman but at the moment just need the car roadworthy asap!

Had been a previous customer of the lease company and all had been great so gave them my business again and this time it’s been disastrous. They are just middlemen though so the car didn’t come from them nor do they own the car so it gets confusing who actually is responsible for resolving this situation.

Just checked and it says “no new updates are available” but can’t see the actual version?

Others here know better than I do, but there is a period during which you can reject the car and walk away without any termination fee. I'd have done it over mouldy upholstery quite frankly. It may have been completely forgotten about, these things happen.

Wait for others to explain in detail, but I think the initial period is a month, and you don't really have to give a reason. I think. But then after that there is a further period where you have to let them have one try at repairing it, and if they can't or don't do that, you can reject the car. It's not an early termination, it's a faulty product situation.

They won't tell you about this of course, but if you know your rights and you tell them, you might fins a very different response.

I did try on the basis of being mis-sold an earlier model as well as the filthy state of it. They initially came back with the termination fees and when I said I wanted it raised as a complaint 2.5 weeks later they again decided I didn’t have a case except for £70 valet. They have pointed me in the direction of the financial ombudsman or BVRLA governing body to raise further. This latest breakdown just adds weight to my argument of not getting a “new” car so will wait for this saga to be resolved before I submit to ombudsman.

My immediate concern is to have a car that will sit on the drive for 6 weeks until it goes into the garage as if we drive it and the power steering goes again it could be very dangerous plus MG assist won’t come out if it’s the same problem again. Yet we desperately need a car! It’s astonishing only a 1 year warranty yet impossible to get it seen to!

The MG4 wasn't homologated / NCAP tested until April (?) '22. I believe the first customer cars were built in late July / early August '22. (Mine is 28-Aug-22 I think, and I collected it on 25-Nov-22, after it arrived in the UK in October '22). The chances of your car having actually been built in Feb '22 are slim to non-existent.

That is of no value because it is linked to OTA updates. And there is no such functionality yet.
As quick check, go to the settings menu by swiping sideways in the start screen. Go to system. You will find a reference to the version of your infotainment system (second item I think). Most likely your car is untouched...

Give citizens advice a call, they will ensure you are fully aware of your rights and support you. They are very good.

Dont mess about, reject it straight away.

Somebody is going to have to ask this and it might as well be me. Does your car have a rear wiper?
That’s funny as that’s one of the issues I raised that it wasn’t the model I expected! No it doesn’t! It wasn’t til 24 hours of receiving the car did we realise it wasn’t the latest model.

i have tried and raised an official complaint. It’s been rejected and have been referred to financial ombudsman to escalate it.
